Brahmanbaria drug dealer killed in gunfight

A drug dealer was killed in an alleged gunfight with the Detective Branch of the police in Bhatshala area of the district, amid an anti-narcotics crackdown that began two months ago. The dead is Kawsar Bhuiyan, 45, son of Abdul Razzak of the town’s Kandipara area. “He was carrying drugs in a pick-up van and started firing on us after we asked to stop him, forcing us retaliate as well,” DB Officer-in-Charge Md Mafiz Uddin said in the evening. The anti-drug drives began in the district two months ago when Superintendent of Police Md Mizanur Rahman threatened the local drug peddlers of dire consequences if they had not stopped the crime. At least four people including Kawsar have been killed in gunfights with the law enforcers since then.
