Algeria: Major controversy over replacement of Sonatrach CEO

Algeria: Major controversy over replacement of Sonatrach CEOThe North Africa Journal – March 20, 2017 – The CEO of the Algerian company Sonatrach is a very powerful man. Today (March 20), Sonatrach CEO Amine Mazouzi was fired just two years after his appointment, and was quickly replaced by Abdelmoumen Ould Kaddour, a former executive at Brown & Root Condor, a Sonatrach subsidiary. All major Algerian and foreign media have reported that Ould Kaddour was sentenced by a military court in 2007 to no less than three years in prison. Firstly no one really knows who appointed Mr. Ould Kaddour. This saga is also happening after the presidency managed to sideline the DRS intelligence services, which spearheaded investigations on oil sector scandals before the presidency decided to shut it down.
