During 143 years of reign (1802 – 1945), the Nguyen Dynasty held an annual ceremony to plant the Neu pole at the Imperial Citadel. The Neu pole is also believed to ward off ghosts and demons from entering the community during Tet.

Bui Vien pedestrian hours to be lengthenedAuthorities in District 1 in HCM City have proposed to expand and lengthen the opening time of the Bui Vien Pedestrian Street. District 1 authorities have also recommended opening the street on Friday evening as well, instead of just from Saturday to Sunday evening at present. 72 wild animals rescued in JanuaryAt least 72 wild animals were released in their natural habitat in the first month of the year, according to Education for Nature Viet Nam (ENV). Some of these animals were rescued by people and some by police after busting cases of animal trafficking. Illegal breeding of wild animals in homes and restaurants have been prevalent in the country. Besides selling and advertising to shops and restaurants, traffickers use social networks to sell wild animals to avoid detection by authorities, said ENV.
