The Entry Exit System (EES) involves people from third-party countries such as the UK having their fingerprints registered and photograph taken to enter the Schengen area, which consists of 29 European countries, mainly in the EU. For most UK travellers the EES process will be done at foreign airports. UK travellers boarding international services from London’s St Pancras railway station, the Port of Dover and Eurotunnel’s Folkestone terminal will complete EES checks in the UK. The EU is rolling out EES in a phased manner, with participating states initially only required to use the system for a proportion of their arrivals. The renowned Lord Crewe Arms in the medieval village of Blanchland, Northumberland, has garnered renewed praise, making its way into second place in the Times' list of the 25 best spots for an autumn break. Nestled on the County Durham border in the sleepy village of Blanchland, the Lord Crewe Arms, much like the historic village it sits in, is often celebrated for preserving its qualities from the past. 'Up high the wind may be scouring the flat moorland tops of the North Pennines' but down in the Lord Crewe Arms, 'you’ll be snug and warm' said the Times. Paths lead up from the village through woods to the moors — don’t get lost."
