Bangladesh interim government’s Information Advisor Mahfuj Alam on Tuesday claimed that more than one lakh members of ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League have fled to India, according to media reports. After the fall of her government in August, Sheikh Hasina is maintaining low profile and is staying closely connected to a select group of trusted Awami League leaders. He accused the Awami League of operating as a “mafia group" and vowed that the party would never be allowed to regain political footing in Bangladesh. We have learnt that nearly 100,000 Awami League members have taken refuge there," he was quoted as saying. Hasina’s Awami League is absent from Bangladesh’s political domain.
