The government has decided to declare a public holiday on Oct 10 so Hindus can celebrate the festival comfortably, the special assistant to the chief advisor saysThe Durga Puja holidays have been extended by another day, according to Mahfuz Alam, special assistant to the chief advisor. “For a long time, Hindu devotees have been demanding an extension of the Durga Puja holiday as they celebrate it from Sashthi [the sixth day of the festival] to Dashami [the 10th day of the festival]. No one involved in conspiracies will be spared.”“A message to those who are trying to destabilise the country – the current interim government stands by everyone.”The Durga Puja officially begins with Sasthi, which is on Wednesday. Friday and Saturday are weekly holidays, while Dashami - which had previously been declared a holiday – falls on Sunday. Jayanta Kumar Deb, the president of the Metropolitan Sarbajanin Puja Committee, greeted the special assistant to the chief advisor during his visit to Dhakeshwari.
