Body of 5-year-old girl recovered from Nyamindi River: Mother still missingThe body of the five-year-old girl who drowned with her mother in the Nyamindi River in Kirinyaga County has been found. However, her mother’s body is yet to be recovered following the incident on Saturday, May 4, which has left everyone baffled. The mother, Maureen Wangui, 29, jumped into the swollen river with her daughter strapped to her back and was swept downstream. The area police commander, Mr Johnson Wachira, said the child’s body had been taken to the morgue while the search for her mother’s body continued. “We are still in mourning and we are calling on the government to ensure that the mother’s body is also found,” said one of the relatives, Stephen Maembe.
