But I hope that we don’t lose the focus on supporting and listening to staff who raise concerns. It happens despite the Nolan principles around integrity and honesty,5 which apply to holders of senior public office. And it happens despite the creation of the Health Services Safety Investigations Body and the Care Quality Commission’s inspections and ratings. I’m not against Streeting’s proposal to register and regulate NHS managers, nor his view that those who suppress concerns and intimidate whistleblowers should face consequences.
