OTTAWA — The executive payroll within Canada’s public service increased by nearly half a billion dollars since 2015, newly released records show. Average annual pay for executives also went up, increasing from $193,600 to $208,480 per year. The ranks of Canada’s public service swelled by 40 per cent since the Trudeau Liberals gained power eight years ago , particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. Operational spending for the public service grew 32 per cent since the fiscal year 2019-20, from $87.5 billion to $115.9 billion in 2021–22. Between 2015 and 2022, federal executives received $1.3 billion in bonuses , the National Post also reported last June.
