A review led by Justice Secretary Robert Buckland, due to be published next month, will recommend a raft of measures that shift the focus from the credibility of rape victims towards the suspect's behaviour. A report by the Information Commissioner Elizabeth Denham last year concluded that police forces were taking 'excessive amounts of personal data' from victims' phones amid warnings that cases were being dropped due to the intrusive demands. The Government proposals, backed by Home Secretary Priti Patel, will standardise the return of devices to victims within 24 hours. Last month Mr Buckland, a former criminal barrister, announced a new Victims' Code which would allow victims to be informed when an offender leaves prison. The code is expected to form the basis of a consultation for a new victims' law later this year.

By Yumiko PereraGiving rise to a new environmental challenge, the increased consumption of single-use facemasks has begun to pose an imminent threat to water sources as well as marine and wildlife the world over. Carelessly discarded facemasks lodged in little nooks and corners of gutters alongside alleyways and roads have unfortunately become a common sight in most urban areas. For years, many have assumed that a reasonable, conservative, Christian view of life was still upheld in several important places. The Long March of the Left through the institutions of Britain has included almost all such places. Dr Randall, a plainly reasonable, well-educated and tolerant person, did no more than deliver a sermon calling for more tolerance. Do they really think that a man who hunts his own children with bloodhounds has no sense of humour? Fifty years of supposedly seeking a peace deal have made life for Arab men, women and children vastly worse.
