LONDON, United Kingdom — Iranian forces' closure of the Strait of Hormuz has sent shockwaves through global trade, with little sign of a break in the deadlock. The proposed system would create an Iranian-approved "safe corridor" for ships to use, Meade told an online briefing on Thursday. While this offers some movement, Meade warned that "negotiated safe passage... is unlikely to dramatically increase the trickle of tonnage". But the thousands of seafarers on board already face dwindling supplies of fuel and water, the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) warned Tuesday. Iran's Parliament Speaker Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf warned on Tuesday that "the Strait of Hormuz won't return to its pre-war status".

MANILA, Philippines — State weather bureau PAGASA officially decommissioned seven domestic tropical cyclone names from its roster following the severe impacts of the 2025 season. In a statement, PAGASA said the names Crising, Emong, Mirasol, Nando, Opong, Tino and Uwan will no longer be used and have been removed from the country’s rotating list of tropical cyclone names. Bible: How not togo to war“Hawks” or so-called military experts will certainly not quote Bible verses as they assess plans and operations for war, and most technical experts will shy away from quoting the verses lest they be laughed out of the room. But when ICE agents started unilaterally throwing everybody into the bus regardless of factual and actual citizenship, the US became a house divided. As I reflected on that, I remembered how, during the Vietnam War, the United States was practically on the brink of civil war because of an unpopular war far, far, away in Southeast Asia. From the lessons about a house divided, another lesson on war is about counting the cost, written in the book of Luke 14:31-32. Unfortunately, the US quickly forgot the lesson or foolishly underestimated “the enemy.”Today, Donald Trump is once again relearning the lessons from the Vietnam war.

EDITORIAL - New positions, better responses? There’s a presidential adviser for sustainable and resilient communities, and now there’s a special envoy for disaster risk reduction and management. With two new special positions plus the DENR secretary, the public should expect top-caliber responses to climate change-related issues and other environmental concerns. Before this, national attention was focused on the still unresolved budget and flood control corruption scandal as well as the impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte. With two new positions created to deal with environmental issues, the public expects a marked improvement in disaster preparedness, mitigation and resilience.
