Let’s grow our own mushroomsFor generations, many Filipinos believed that mushrooms sprout only after a thunderstorm. At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, my plantita daughter started growing mushrooms from fruiting bags. It was fascinating to watch how mushrooms grow overnight, are harvested daily and cooked into delicious dishes like mushroom sinigang and my favorite – mushroom tempura. Made as a compact, automated cabinet-style setup, it allows individuals, schools and small businesses to easily grow mushrooms. This should interest small entrepreneurs, young people, housewives and plantitos and plantitas to grow mushrooms at home.

Based on its year-end report, the DOTr has acquired 90.76 percent of ROW for the subway as of 2025, with properties cleared in business districts and exclusive villages. Given this, acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez views 2025 as a banner year for the DOTr in ROW procurement. Bato’s paid Senate absence an injustice to workers – ACTMANILA, Philippines — The Alliance of Concerned Teachers yesterday criticized Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa for his prolonged absence from the Senate, calling it a brazen dereliction of duty, an abuse of privilege and betrayal of public trust. ACT chairperson Ruby Bernardo urged Senate leaders to stop coddling the absentee lawmaker and immediately impose sanctions, including disciplinary action tantamount to dismissal. Bernardo cited reports that Dela Rosa has not reported for Senate work since Nov. 11, 2025, yet continues to receive his full salary, benefits and perks – an arrangement she described as an obscene display of entitlement funded by the taxes of struggling Filipino workers and teachers. She challenged Dela Rosa to stop hiding and face the consequences of his actions, daring him to “reunite with his former commander-in-chief, Rodrigo Duterte, who is now detained by the ICC to stand trial for crimes against humanity.”The continued Senate inaction would only fuel public outrage and further erode trust in government, she added.

The truth that every Bar examinee knows, but the world often forgets, is simple: No one becomes a lawyer alone. A family shares a group hug during the release of the 2025 Bar exam results at the Supreme Court. Then there is the village within the walls of the law school: the classmates who turn from competitors into comrades. In a world that prizes "solo survival," the Bar exam is actually a testament to shared struggle. The 2025 Bar exam results were released on Jan. 7.

I was barely two weeks into my third year in law school when I found out I had a rare form of lymphoma, a cancer of the immune system. It seemed, at that time, that law school simply wasn’t for me. I told Him, "I don’t have to become a lawyer, as long as I make it out of this ordeal alive." I remember taking my final exams in law school while getting chemotherapy in January 2022. My law school transcript is the imprint of my struggle and survival.

Against Wang, Eala is expected to unleash the brand of aggressive yet disciplined tennis that has increasingly impressed observers and instilled unease among the remaining title contenders. Eala and Wang will be aiming for a place in their second career tour-level singles final. Though a brief stumble allowed Linette to claw back with back-to-back games, the Filipina regrouped with poise well beyond her years. Eala reasserted control with razor-sharp backhand crosscourts and authoritative forehand winners to close out the match in convincing fashion. Her growing physicality, expanding shot repertoire, and enhanced decision-making suggest a player rapidly approaching the world-class level many have long predicted.
