LAHORE - The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) on Monday demolished nine constructions besides sealing seven properties in the city during an operation. The teams, under the supervision of Chief Town Planner Azhar Ali, conducted operations against illegal constructions in Johar Town, Lahore Evenue, Wapda Town, IEP Town, Valencia Town and UET Society. Farmhouses on Defence Road, plot number 2H in Johar Town, plot number 4 Block M, and plot number 12A Block F were also demolished. Plot number 227 Block A UET Society, plot number 73 Block A2, and 72 Block D2 in Wapda Town were sealed. Plot number 302 Block L, 197 Block L, 306, 307 Block L in Johar Town, and plot number 36 Block A3 in IEP Town were also sealed.

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan and the United States have reaffirmed their commitment to continue counter-terrorism, pledging to work together to address regional and global security challenges and promote stability in the region. “The counter-terrorism dialogue underscores the cooperation between Pakistan and the United States in addressing the most pressing challenges to regional and global security, including Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and ISIS-Khorasan”, a joint statement issued after the Pakistan-US counter-terrorism dialogue held in Washington D.C on May 10, said. Discussions centred on the counter-terrorism landscape in the region, with a focus on areas of mutual interest. Pakistan and the United States recognize that a partnership to counter ISIS-Khorasan, TTP, and other terrorist organizations will advance security in the region and serve as a model of bilateral and regional cooperation to address transnational terrorism threats. Both governments resolved to increase communication on these topics and continue collaboration to detect and deter violent extremism through whole-of-government approaches.

Polling peaceful in Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency, provisional figures indicate highest turnout since 1996. The polling percentage in these polling stations is almost the same as recorded in the rest of the Srinagar constituency. This was the highest since 1996, when a 40.94 per cent turnout was recorded, and much higher than 14.43 per cent in 2019 and 25.86 per cent in 2014. Polling took place in 2,135 polling stations across the constituency with live webcasting at all the polling stations. The CEO said the EVM replacement had been merely 0.24 per cent, which is the lowest in J&K Lok Sabha polls so far.

The constant reduction in size of the federal Public Sector Development Programme over the last three years is yet another indicator of Pakistan’s persisting financial and economic crisis. According to media reports, the IMF wants Pakistan to reduce expenditure by about 163 billion to Rs183 billion to compensate for a major revenue shortfall. This would endanger its chances of receiving a longer and more substantial bailout to stay afloat. However, this’recovery’ is fragile, and any shock now could result in a relapse. In this scenario, it is unrealistic to expect the government to increase investment in public infrastructure development anytime soon.
