A fresh political crisis has given birth to yet another constitutional controversy over the interpretation of Article 63-A in the light of recent Supreme Court orders. CJP Umar Ata Bandial had observed that the loyalty of members was a basic right of political parties. The issue to be decided now is whether it is the party leader or the party’s parliamentary leader who has the authority to issue the party’s guideline. There are some who are interpreting directions of a ‘parliamentary party’ in Article 63A as directions of the ‘leader of the parliamentary party’ as opposed to party head. They are the final authority in devising policies, making alliances, issuing tickets to party candidates and appointing parliamentary leaders.

Speaking on the occasion, Azam Nazir Tarar said that presidents of Supreme Court Bar Association were also present during today’s proceedings, saying that they had also said that forming the full court bench will increase the respect for the top court. He said that only the head of a political party was the authority to declare the party policy in accordance with the previous judgements of the apex court. He said that they would only accept the judgement of the full court bench on the matter.

ISLAMABAD – A high level delegation comprising Pakistan’s top religious scholars including Molana Muhammad Tayyab Tahiri, Mufti Taqi Usmani who is president of Wifaq ul Madaris al Arabia, Hanif Jalandhari, along with other religious scholars left for Kabul yesterday to meet the Afghan Taliban leadership. This is the first high-level religious delegation which is visiting Afghanistan at the invitation of Taliban Government after they took over power last year. Credible sources said that during their stay in Kabul, the delegation will meet the acting prime minister of Afghanistan and other cabinet members. The sources said the delegation will also discuss about talks between TTP and Pakistani Government with the facilitation of Afghan Taliban. The delegation will also talk about role of Ulema in countering terrorism, militancy and cooperation of Afghan Taliban in this regard.

A large number of transgender persons benefitted from the medical camp where screening for diabetes and hypertension alongside vision checkup and BMI was provided. Consultations for general diseases and free medicines were also provided to everyone coming to the medical camp. Other than transgender persons, some underprivileged people also attended the camp to avail free medical facilities and they were guided about healthy habits and diets. They thanked the hospital and the college management and students, and expressed their wish to have more such medical camps on a regular basis.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan has said the recent developments in Punjab have exposed the politics of all coalition parties and the nation would work together to foil their conspiracies. Addressing his party’s political committee, he said the nexus of Nawaz Sharif and Asif Zardari had harmed the national economy. According to local media sources, the meeting discussed the election of the Punjab chief minister and judicial matters related to it. The meeting also discussed issues related to the delay of Sindh local government elections. Imran Khan said the rival parties had adopted unfair means after seeing the decision of people in by-polls in Punjab.

In this regard, a party meeting was held in Model Town under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to discuss the post-Punjab CM election, which was attended by the senior party leaders. Party sources privy to the matter said that it was decided in the meeting that the Punjab cabinet should be formed immediately. While Mian Mujtaba Shuja ur Rehman, Bilal Yasin, Khawaja Imran Nazir, Muhammad Manshaullah Butt, Khawaja Salman Rafique, Malik Ahmed Khan, and Sardar Awais Leghari could be part of the Punjab cabinet. On the other hand, there is a possibility of including 3 members of the People’s Party and independent members in the cabinet.
