Russia has sought to expand and deepen cooperation with Pakistan as the first shipment carrying Russian oil reached Karachi Port at the weekend. In April, the two countries signed a landmark deal that allowed Pakistan to receive the first Russian oil shipment at the weekend. The first shipment is part of the pilot project to assess if Russian oil can be beneficial for Pakistan. However, he added, Russia had always been interested in expanding cooperation with Pakistan, and under no circumstances has abandoned its commitments. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Sunday he would approach the public in case the government was unable to seal the deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for the bailout package before its expiry on June 30. “If the IMF agreement is delayed, I will appeal to the people of Pakistan,” he added, without elaborating. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reached out to four cricket boards in order to schedule One Day International (ODI) matches for the Pakistan team before the 2023 World Cup, which will take place in India later this year. The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) conducted raids to arrest Dr Uzma Khan, the sister of former prime minister Imran Khan, and her husband, Ahad Majeed, in a mega-corruption case, an ACE spokesperson said on Sunday. ISLAMABAD - Finance Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar said Sunday that the government is tak­ing necessary measures to re-negotiate with International Monetary Fund on more favorable terms and conditions. UNITED NATIONS - A United Nations Security Council report has come as a reminder about the persistent threat Pakistan’s se­curity faces from the Afghani­stan-based Tehreek-e-Taliban Paki­stan (TTP), saying the militant group also poses a threat to the region. “The link between the Taliban and both Al-Qaeda and Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) remains strong and symbiotic,” the annual report of the 1988 Taliban sanctions committee monitoring team noted. The report comes amid escalating TTP attacks inside Pakistani terri­tory to which Pakistan has repeat­edly drawn the attention of the in­ternational community. “It is too early to judge the impact of the decree by the Taliban in April 2022 banning poppy cultivation,” the report added. Key Taliban individuals remain closely involved in produc­tion and trafficking.” However, the Afghan Taliban dismissed the re­port and called it “full of prejudice”, according to media reports.

At 2:05 a.m. Sunday, police received a call of shots fired in the 4100 block of 49th Terrace North. Birmingham Fire and Rescue pronounced the victim dead at the scene. “The preliminary investigation has revealed that we believe a party was being held at the 4100 block of 49th Terrace North at a residence,” Fitzgerald said. Fitzgerald asked that anyone attending the party contact police with any information they may have related to the incident.
