Football’s world governing body FIFA said beer would not be sold to fans around any of the eight World Cup stadiums following discussions with the hosts. It said beer sales would be focused on fan zones and licensed venues, “removing sales points of beer from Qatar’s FIFA World Cup 2022 stadium perimeters.”It gave no reason for the surprise decision but media reports said there had been an intervention by Qatar’s ruling family.

The Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, has expressed sadness over the tragic death of his Special Assistant on Media, Mohammed Isa. The aide died on Friday evening while undergoing treatment for the injuries he sustained in a motor accident on Sunday. The accident happened on the Minna-Suleja Road in Niger State. He was said to be travelling from Suleja to Minna alongside the state’s former Commissioner for Information, Danladi Ndayebo, when the accident happened. Ndayebo died at the hospital much earlier while Isa was on treatment till he gave up the ghost on Friday.

The Delta State Government has distributed Automated Teller Machine cards to 6,177 beneficiaries of Government Enterprises Empowerment Programme in the state. The Commissioner for Humanitarian and Community Support Services, Dr. Darlington Ijeh, disclosed this in Asaba while marking 100 days in office. He said, “Beneficiaries of Government Enterprises Empowerment Programme received their Automated Teller Machine cards for quick and easy access to the soft loans. “GEEP approved 2,866 beneficiaries in phase 1 and 3,321 in phase 2 in the 25 Local Government Areas. A total of 6,177 ATM cards are currently being distributed in various communities of the State.

An analysis of Nigeria’s 2023 proposed budget has shown that only N58 billion (0.29 per cent) is allocated to Women Economic Empowerment (WEE) programmes when measured as a percentage of the total budget. It however fell to 122 in the proposed 2023 budget. dRPC said the analysis is based on a detailed review of the capital component of the 2023 proposed budget. The Department of State Services said it has launched a probe into allegations of unprofessional conduct by its operatives at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos State. An Abuja-based human rights lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi, had accused some operatives of the secret agency of begging passengers for money at the airportOlajengbesi, in a Facebook post, said, “It is actually an embarrassment to the entire nation to have DSS officers vetting people coming into the country at the Lagos airport begging for money. “One can forgive Immigration and Customs officers because this is simply customary but that of a very important agency like the DSS is shocking.”DSS spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, however, said, “The attention of the Department of State Services has been drawn to the allegation by one Pelumi Olajengbesi that the Service’s personnel at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, engage in unprofessional conduct of sorts. “Consequently, the Service has launched a full investigation into the matter. It further invites Olajengbesi and indeed any member of the public with evidence in this regard to come forward to the Service with such for appropriate action(s).”
