Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, on Friday unveiled the first phase of the Orashi Electricity Project under the Light Up Imo Project, declaring it a turning point in the state’s power sector and an end to what he described as the generator-driven economy. Uzodimma said the Orashi Electricity Project represents the first phase of the Light Up Imo initiative, executed by the state-owned Orashi Electricity Company, and described it as Imo State’s declaration of energy sovereignty. He noted that unreliable power supply had crippled businesses over the years, forcing many to spend more on power generation than on staff salaries. “It is my honour to officially commission phase one of the Light Up Imo Project,” he said. Earlier, the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, said the commissioning of the Orashi Electricity Project underscores the success of Nigeria’s power sector reforms and the increasing role of states in electricity delivery.
