The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has defended the Senate’s ongoing amendment of the Electoral Act, saying critics are misjudging lawmakers based on an incomplete legislative process. Akpabio insisted that the Senate did not remove electronic transmission of election results in the amendment of the Act. He noted that the lawmakers only questioned the requirement for real-time transmission. The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) on Saturday called on the Senate to include mandatory electronic transmission of election results in the Act. A United States court has sentenced a Nigerian national, Tochukwu Albert Nnebocha, to 97 months’ imprisonment for participating in a transnational inheritance fraud scheme that targeted elderly and vulnerable Americans. The statement read, “According to court documents, Tochukwu Albert Nnebocha, 44, of Nigeria, and his co-conspirators operated a lucrative transnational inheritance fraud scheme that exploited vulnerable people in the United States. “The conspirators then told the victims that, before they could receive their purported inheritance, they were required to send money for purported delivery fees, taxes, and payments regarding the inheritance. He later pleaded guilty in November 2025 to conspiracy to commit mail fraud and wire fraud. At sentencing, the court ordered 97 months’ imprisonment, three years of supervised release and restitution exceeding $6.8m to victims.

Yobe State Police Command has commenced a manhunt for an 18-year-old housewife who allegedly attacked her 25-year-old husband, inflicting a deep cut on his genitalia. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Saturday ordered the immediate reopening of the Samiya International Border in Kebbi State with the Republic of Benin. The directive was disclosed in Birnin Kebbi when the Comptroller-General of Customs, Mr Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, paid a one-day official visit to the Nigeria Customs Service Area Command in the Kebbi State capital.
