The Guardian Nigeria reports that several journalists have been detained over a viral video which showed President Salva Kiir wetting himself. Over six people who are working with South Sudan's National Broadcaster have been arrested as the video went viral and President Salva was seen wetting himself during an official event, the Union of Journalists in South Sudan was responsible for releasing the statement on Friday. The video showed the 71 year old President standing during the National Anthem during an opening ceremony in December and the President appeared to have been urinating on himself while standing. The six journalists were arrested on Tuesday following the viral video. The journalists were arrested because it is believed that they had connection in the release of the video clip to the public.

The Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Yakubu Sanda, narrowly escaped being kidnapped by gunmen who attacked his house in Jos on Friday . The Independent National Electoral Commission in Borno State has said that only 27,753 Permanent Voter Cards have been collected out of the 132,750 supplied to the state. “So far, only 27,753 cards were issued out of the 132,750 new PVCs received as at January 5, 2023,” Ibrahim said. He also explained that out of the 76,677 replacement/transfer cards received, only 19,209 were collected. “As for the 151,047 old PVCs, a total of 39,429 had been collected leaving a balance of 111,618,” Ibrahim said. “As from today (Friday), we have started distribution at ward levels and will last for 10 days,” Ibrahim said.

The Photo Editor of Guardian Newspaper, Femi Adebesin-Kuti, is dead. The Photo Journalists Association of Nigeria (PJAN) announced his passage through a statement issued by its chairman, Kola Olasupo and secretary, Sly Okoruwa. “We the members of Photojournalists Association of Nigeria (PJAN) regret to announce the passing away of our former Vice – Chairman, Femi Adebesin- Kuti. “Until his death, Femi Kuti was the Photo editor of Guardian Newspaper”, the statement reads. The remains of Mr Adebesin-Kuti have been buried in Abeokuta according to Islamic rites.

The Kwara State Police Command has arrested a suspect identified as Issa Naigheti who allegedly kidnapped his father, Bature Naigboho, in Igboho in Orelope Local Government Area of Oyo State and got a ransom of N2.5 million before his release. The command said that the suspect was arrested by the anti-kidnapping team at the Kambi area on Ilorin-Jebba road in Moro local government area of Kwara state on Wednesday, January 4,2023. A statement by the command’s spokesman, Ajayi Okasanmi, said the anti-kidnapping team was on the trail of suspected kidnappers around Kambi area when they arrested Issa. Okesanmi said Issa confessed during interrogation that he conspired with two others to kidnap his father, Bature and collected a ransom of N2.5 million.
