The Americans — who, ironically, have been in camp in Dunedin longer than the Black Sticks — started the stronger team. Black Sticks midfielder Emma Rainey pinches the ball from American Ashley Hoffman during their match in Dunedin last night. Ramsey used her power to beat O’Hanlon from a penalty stroke for the equaliser, and a Black Sticks penalty corner fizzled out. A late penalty corner gave the Black Sticks hope but it, like their evening, ended in frustration. The tournament continues today with Japan v USA in the early game followed by the Black Sticks playing their second-stringers.

It incorporates two reserves and playgrounds and a large active reserve running 1.2km through the heart of the subdivision which contains a cycleway and footpath. Cr Andrew Simms, a former chairman of the Mosgiel-Taieri community board, said the company had kept the Mosgiel community informed, despite the community expressing some ongoing concerns. However, the size of the subdivision was in other ways, "very encouraging for the Mosgiel and Taieri communities".

Barlow’s latest offending was described by his lawyer, Ian Miller, as “deeply unpleasant”, whereas Judge Snell said it was worse than that, and the charge should have reflected what happened. “It’s a rather innocuous charge for what was serious offending,” he said. The victim now wanted Barlow to get “serious help”, and did not want to hear from him ever again. Judge Snell was not sure if Barlow was telling the truth about him not recalling what happened because of his alcohol consumption, but there was no dispute that he had done it. The theft was reported weeks later when he still hadn’t paid, Judge Snell said.

She was originally charged eight months after the incident, which happened on New Year’s Day last year, with dangerous driving causing death and dangerous driving causing injury. The Crown yesterday withdrew the second charge and amended the lead charge to a lesser one of careless driving causing death. The latest property values are good news for Gore homeowners — but it’s a different story for the district’s rural sector. The residential market showed Gore homes have increased in value by 10-15%, driven by first home buyers and investors, with strong value for entry level homes and modern buildings. Property Brokers sales manager and consultant Tara Maxwell said it was a good time to get into the property market in Gore, and encouraged people to go out and get a home. Commercial and industrial properties sit at 9.4% of the district’s value with an uptick of 9.6% and 14.3% respectively. Mr Bell said the improvements in the confidence of the economy and the central nature of the Gore district were key strengths.
