KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah STAR politician who allegedly molested an Unduk Ngadau contestant has been remanded for four days. Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles issued the order on Friday (June 4) after investigators made the request to further remand suspended Sabah STAR Putatan division coordinator Philip Among. (June 4): A former senior U.S. Treasury Department adviser was sentenced to six months in jail for leaking confidential financial records involving Paul Manafort and others to a reporter. “When I physically saw corruption in the Treasury Department, I could not stand by aimlessly as this would be a violation of my oath of office,” she said. Prosecutors say she leaked more than 50,000 documents, including 2,000 suspicious-activity reports, or SARs, beginning in the summer of 2017. KOTA KINABALU: A senior leader of Sabah STAR was arrested for allegedly molesting a participant at the just concluded state-level cultural pageant, amid a call to other contestants to come forward if they were similarly accosted. Philip Among (pic), who was suspended as Putatan Sabah STAR division coordinator, was arrested at his office at 1.10pm yesterday, shortly after he gave a press conference denying the accusation. After the press conference ended and the reporters left the office, the policemen went in and arrested Among. Kitingan said the idea of women being out on stage paraded as objects, stared at, bullied or taken advantage of was not part of the Unduk Ngadau tradition. Many women and former Unduk Ngadau queens including Jo-Anna Sue Henley Rampas (2007), Mandy Nandu (2005) and Fharelynne Ivonne Henry (2004) have given their moral support to the alleged victim.

PETALING JAYA: Indian-Muslim restaurant operators are up in arms against a ruling requiring them to apply for approval to keep their businesses open under the ongoing lockdown. They complained that the application had to be done through the one-stop centre manned by the International Trade and Industry Ministry (Miti). KUALA LUMPUR (June 3): Syarikat Jaminan Pembiayaan Perniagaan Bhd (SJPP), wholly owned by the Minister of Finance Inc, is now accepting applications from participating credit companies under a special government guarantee scheme provided for bus and taxi operators. This initiative, called the Bus and Taxi Hire Purchase Rehabilitation Scheme (BTHPRS), was announced by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin under the PEMERKASA Plus package on May 31. It also said that the government will provide a 50% guarantee on restructured hire purchase credit facilities for eligible bus and taxi operators. “With the government guarantee, eligible bus and taxi operators will be able to obtain a 12-month loan moratorium and an extended loan tenure of up to 36 months,” it said. ”With the active participation of all parties, which includes bus and taxi operators, credit companies and associations, and with available information and awareness about the scheme, more operators will benefit from this government guarantee scheme.

IPOH: A beef stall owner and his wife are upset that they have been targeted in a viral message claiming that they have Covid-19. Norlaili Mohd Zain, 62, said the message, which went viral on Sunday (May 30), had affected their business at the Tanjung Rambutan wet market. Norlaili said the message contained an old picture of her 60-year-old husband Meor Badioz Zulkifli Zaman and claimed that he has Covid-19. "He was the only one in the market accused of having Covid-19 and told to go for a swab test," she said.
