SIBU: Three local men aged between 27 and 31 have been arrested to assist investigations into the murder of a foreign national, believed to have resulted from a fight at a hotel here early Thursday (Jan 15). Sibu OCPD Zulkipli Suhaili said police received a report at about 4.22am regarding a foreign man who had died after being admitted to Hospital Sibu. “The 27-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the hospital due to severe head injuries,” he said in a statement. Police later arrested three local men believed to be involved in the incident. PUTRAJAYA: The Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) has introduced a new information search platform using the WhatsApp application. In a statement on Thursday (Jan 15), LHDN said taxpayers would be able to receive tax updates, payment reminders, notifications on arrears and compliance alerts through the WhatsApp application via their registered mobile numbers. Meanwhile, an enhanced enquiry platform known as Tanya Hafy will replace the previous version, Tanya@HKC, on the official LHDN portal. "This information search feature offers a self-service approach that is more systematic, relevant and efficient," it said. LHDN said the introduction of the Hasil WhatsApp application and the Tanya Hafy platform is expected to add value for taxpayers by improving access to important tax-related information.

KUALA LUMPUR: Eight locals, including an Immigration Department officer, have been arrested in an operation to dismantle a syndicate involved in illegally obtaining Malaysian passports. Those arrested included an Immigration officer suspected of facilitating the syndicate’s activities, a Malaysian believed to be a syndicate member, as well as four men and two women aged between 32 and 61. “During the raids, several items were seized, including four birth certificates, one Malaysian passport, eight mobile phones and 13 copies of Malaysian passport application forms,” Zakaria said in a statement on Thursday.
