KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): The High Court here has fixed Oct 21 to decide on the legal action by 18 youths challenging the government's delay in implementing Undi18, a move to lower the voting age to 18 and enable automatic voter registration (AVR). "On March 25, the EC in a press statement mentioned that AVR and Undi18 would only be implemented after Sept 1, 2022. The AVR should have been completed last month (July) as the government made the announcement on Oct 10, 2019. On April 2, the youths, aged between 18 and 20, filed their legal action seeking several court orders arising from the respondents' delay in the implementation of Undi18. On June 17, they obtained leave from the High Court to challenge the government's action.

YAN: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob says he will not appoint members from the Opposition to be part of his Cabinet. The Prime Minister clarified that his Cabinet line-up will be announced later this week and denied every list that has been shared on social media. He added that the Cabinet line-up must get the nod from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong before it can be made public. Ismail Sabri said so far he had received encouraging feedback from opposition parties that wanted to join the National Recovery Council. YAN (Bernama): The body of the sixth victim reported missing in the water surge incident in Gunung Jerai has been found in an area of Titi Hayun here at 1.30pm on Monday (Aug 23). "The body of the last victim was found under piles of logs,” he said at the search and rescue operation centre in Titi Hayun. DSP Shahnaz said the body has been sent to the Yan Hospital for a post-mortem. He said a total of 400 personnel from the Fire and Rescue Department, Civil Defence Force and the police were involved in the search and rescue (SAR) operation. PETALING JAYA: A total of 441,100 Covid-19 vaccine doses were administered nationwide on Sunday (Aug 22), says the Special Committee on Covid-19 Vaccine Supply (JKJAV). It said in a post on Twitter on Monday (Aug 23) that 137,555 people received their first dose while 303,545 individuals received their second dose. The JKJAV said that Johor had the largest number of people receiving their first dose at 31,417 followed by Sabah (17,167) and Selangor (14,428). It added that Selangor had the highest number of people receiving their second dose at 99,434, followed by Kuala Lumpur (48,761) and Johor (34,016). The JKJAV also said that 31,281,193 doses have been administered since the programme began earlier this year, adding that 78% of Malaysia's adult population has received at least one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine and 55.6% have received two doses.
