KUALA LUMPUR: Deep-sea exploration company Ocean Infinity (OI) has concluded its latest search for Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 in the Indian Ocean, leaving the search area without discovering any new information or data linked to the missing aircraft. Its chief executive officer, Oliver Plunkett, said the company’s vessel officially departed the search zone on Jan 23, in its latest effort to find MH370. Despite not achieving the desired outcome, Plunkett emphasised that eliminating the searched area provides crucial clarity for future efforts. "Ocean Infinity remains committed to the long-term mission of locating the missing aircraft. We’re continuing to work with the Malaysian Government in the hope of being able to return when circumstances allow,” Plunkett said.

IPOH: A man and his aunt have been seriously injured, allegedly stabbed by a family member at a house in Taman Bandar Baru Kampar. Kampar OCPD Supt Nazri Daud said the suspect, Wong Mun Hoe, 58, is believed to have stabbed his son Ming Feng, 22, and sister Siew Poh, 56, in his house at 7.35pm on Sunday (March 8). Supt Nazri said Ming Feng, who is unemployed, was stabbed three times in his neck while Siew Poh was stabbed once on the neck. Supt Nazri said the matter is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt. He was a psychiatric patient at a hospital in Ipoh and has been referred to Hospital Bahagia in Ulu Kinta," he said.

IPOH: An 18-year-old college student has been killed in a freak accident after he was hit by a sickle carried by a foreign worker on a motorcycle in Teluk Intan. Hilir Perak OCPD Asst Comm Dr Bakri Zainal Abidin said in the incident on Monday (March 9), the pillion rider was carrying the sickle that cut the victim's neck while on the road. "Another college student, 17, the deceased's friend, injured his hand," he said in a statement. ACP Bakri said the police have detained two foreign workers aged 39 and 52. "Both suspects will be remanded for investigations under Section 304A of the Penal Code for causing death by negligence," he said.

PUTRAJAYA (March 9): PKR vice president Datuk Seri R Ramanan on Monday revealed the existence of individuals allegedly acting as provocateurs to incite racial tension in the country. Ramanan said certain individuals were believed to have been hired as agents of provocation to trigger racial conflict, adding that authorities needed to identify those financing such activities. He said the country’s positive economic performance under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was being manipulated by certain parties through provocations aimed at stirring racial tension and undermining national unity. “When the country’s economy is doing well, unemployment is low at around 2.9% and the ringgit is strengthening, some parties without political capital resort to playing up racial issues to create unrest,” he said.

GEORGE TOWN: A foreign national was found dead with head injuries at Gat Lebuh Macallum here at midnight on Monday (March 9). George Town OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rozak Muhammad said the victim, believed to be in his 20s, was found lying unconscious in an open area behind an apartment building. He said the discovery was made by policemen from George Town police headquarters while conducting a crime prevention patrol at about 12.05am. “Upon inspection, officers found a man lying unconscious with visible injuries to the head,” he said in a statement on Monday. The victim’s death was later confirmed by paramedics from Hospital Pulau Pinang.

PETALING JAYA: Malaysians eager to travel to 10 Middle Eastern countries are advised to defer their trip due to the ongoing regional conflict, as the Foreign Minister’s travel advisory on March 5 remains in force until further notice. These 10 countries include Iran, Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Wisma Putra said this was due to the escalating regional conflict and to ensure the safety and security of Malaysians trapped in these countries. “Given the security concerns we are facing now, the Ministry wishes to advise Malaysian citizens to defer travel to the 10 affected countries. The ministry said its coordination and evacuation efforts to assist Malaysians trapped in parts of the Middle East were still ongoing.

BUKIT MERTAJAM: A four-month-old baby boy placed in the care of a childcare centre in Seberang Jaya Hospital here has died. "Police have arrested two female employees at the centre, both in their 20s. The baby, identified as Hayl Haarith Mohd Syafaeez, was rushed to the emergency department at about 4am after he was sent to the childcare centre the night before. It is understood that the baby's mother, a 30-year-old nurse, was working the night shift at the hospital. The childcare centre operates 24 hours a day to support hospital staff on duty.

PETALING JAYA: Authorities have uncovered anotehr 22 containers of electronic waste (e-waste) at Port Klang as part of Ops Green Shield 17. Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) Port Klang Entry Control commander Deputy Comm Datuk Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said inspections carried out by the Port Klang E-waste Joint Task Force began at 9.30am on Monday (March 9). DCP Nik Ezanee added that more than 3,000 tonnes of e-waste have been identified since Ops Green Shield began. Monday’s inspection was conducted to continue verifying a container list provided by the Customs Department and Port Klang Authority in 2025. “The e-waste containers will be placed in a secure area while awaiting instructions from the Environment Department for re-export,” he said.
