That legacy appears to have returned, with the International Criminal Court’s prosecutor, Karim Khan, saying in January there are grounds to believe both sides may be committing war crimes, crimes against humanity, or genocide in Darfur. He is wanted by the ICC on charges of genocide and other crimes during the conflict in Darfur in the 2000s. The resolution demands that the RSF and government forces ensure the protection of civilians, including allowing those wishing to move in El Fasher or leave the North Darfur capital to safer areas. In February, Sudan’s foreign minister held talks in Tehran with his Iranian counterpart amid unconfirmed reports of drone purchases for government forces. Dagalo, the leader of the RSF, has reportedly received support from Russia’s Wagner mercenary group.

Other guests include Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, fresh off his own election, and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The G7 summit is taking place in a sprawling luxury resort that’s something of a theater set, a faux town made to resemble one of Puglia’s medieval white-stone hamlets but that actually only dates from 2010.

Libya’s Tripoli-based National Unity Government and Tunisia have reached an agreement to reopen the Ras Ajdir border crossing between the two North African countries after more than three months of closure. Many people on both sides of the border share the same first and family names, leading to some being mistakenly identified as wanted criminals or terrorists. That will come after the completion of maintenance operations, changes of security personnel and upgrading the quality of the border crossing in accordance with international standards. People queue to cross into Tunisia through the Libyan Ras Ajdir border crossing in September 2021. AFPArmed confrontations on the Tunisia-Libya border recur due to long-running conflicts in Libya that broke out after the toppling of dictator Muammar Al Qaddafi in 2011.

TRIPOLI (Reuters) - Interior ministers from Libya and Tunisia said on Wednesday they had agreed to partially reopen the border crossing at Ras Jdir on Thursday morning, and to fully reopen it on June 20 after more than three months of closure. In mid-March, the Libyan interior ministry said it closed the border crossing due to armed clashes after the border was attacked by "outlaws". Ras Ijdir is the major border crossing between the two countries in Libya's western region, where Libyans often go to Tunisia for medical treatment and trucks with goods coming in the opposite direction. "The reopening will be tomorrow for humanitarian cases, special cases that have permits from the Tunisian and Algerian interior ministry, and medical cases," said Trabulsi. Trabulsi added that he would meet Nouri on June 20 at the border crossing "to hold a meeting and fully reopen it to all travellers".

The Ras Jedir border crossing between Libya and Tunisia will be officially reopened on June 20, after more than three months of closure for security reasons. This should ensure greater safety and protection for Libyan and Tunisian citizens who cross the border. The agreement also includes a commitment to open six centers for the electronic registration of Libyan citizens' cars, not to impose unarranged taxes or fines, to control port terminals and against the carrying of weapons. Last March, Imad Trabelsi had ordered the closure of the land border point with Tunisia and the withdrawal of the staff stationed at the crossing "to preserve human lives and public property". The decision was taken after the Berber militias of the Libyan city of Zuwara had rejected a column of vehicles sent from Tripoli to take control of the border point.
