"This week, IOM assisted 151 migrants to safely return home to Bangladesh through the VHR (Voluntary Humanitarian Return) programme in a charter flight from Benghazi to Dhaka," IOM said in a statement on Friday. On Wednesday, Libyan Interior Minister Emad al-Tarabelsi repatriated 270 illegal migrants, confirming that more illegal migrants will be deported from Libya soon. Due to the insecurity and chaos in the country since the fall of late leader Muammar Gaddafi's regime in 2011, many migrants, mostly Africans, chose to cross the Mediterranean Sea to European shores from Libya, reports Xinhua. TRIPOLI, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- Libya's state-owned National Oil Corporation (NOC) said on Friday the North African country produced more than 36.5 million barrels of crude oil in August. The NOC also said that petroleum product and petrochemical production reached 458,126 tons and 24,008 tons, respectively, in August. The production of condensates and natural gas stood at 199,438 tons and 1,072 million cubic meters, respectively, during the same month. In July, Libya produced more than 36 million barrels of oil, along with 199,601 tons of condensates and 1,104 million cubic meters of natural gas, according to NOC. Oil and gas play a crucial role in Libya's economy, as the country possesses the largest proven oil reserves in Africa.

(Reuters) - The long-awaited decision on the hosts for the African Cup of Nations finals in 2025 and 2027 will be made later this month, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) said on Thursday. The hosts would be announced after a meeting of the CAF executive committee in Cairo on Sept. 27, a statement said. Guinea lost the 2025 tournament after CAF found it was well behind in preparations for the 24-team tournament. The hosting of the Cup of Nations has run through a chequered history in the last decade, starting with South Africa stepping in to replace war-torn Libya in 2013. The Libyan security forces have freed ten kidnapped Syrians, including children, in the city of Riqdalin, about 120 km west of the capital Tripoli, the interior ministry has revealed. “After collecting information related to the incident, the Libyan security forces arrested three suspects inside an abandoned house in the Riqdalin area,” explained the ministry. It added that during the arrest, the security forces found ten Syrians who had been kidnapped at gunpoint and were being held for ransom. Libya yesterday deported 270 irregular African and Asian migrants to their respective countries, Anadolu news agency reported. It involves people from Somalia, Niger, Chad, Sudan, Bangladesh and Nigeria,” Libyan Interior Minister, Imad Trabelsi, said during a press conference held at the Tarik Al-Sikka detention centre. Trabelsi said 162 Ghanaian nationals had been deported last week, as well as 137 Malians and others from Bangladesh. “Next Thursday, an unspecified number of irregular migrants will be deported to Pakistan from Benina International Airport,” he added.
