Hours after the ERU officer’s body was found, Grand Bassa County authority headed by Superintendent Janjay Baikpeh expressed regret over the death of the Emergency Response Unit (ERU) officer. Mr. Eddie Williams, County Information Officer posted on his official Facebook page saying: “The Grand Bassa County administration headed by Superintendent Janjay Baikpeh regrets the death of an ERU officer in Bassa. However, Grand Bassa Police detachment including members of the joint Security immediately drove to several drug users’ spots (ghettoes) with a bulldozer and broke down several structures. The Police had promised to continue the process as the investigation into the death of the late ERU officer continues.

MONROVIA – Senator Varney Sherman (UP-Grand Cape Mount County) has expressed fears that his bid for re-election could be rejected by citizens of the county due to failure by the Executive Branch of Government to remit to the county money paid by Western Cluster and other companies as social development funds. According to the lawmaker, it has been more than three years the county is yet to realise any amount from the Executive Branch of Government, through the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, to the county for development purposes. The past eight years are on track to be the hottest ever recorded, a United Nations report has found, as UN chief Antonio Guterres warned that the planet was sending “a distress signal”. The UN’s weather and climate body released its annual state of the global climate report on Sunday with another warning that the target to limit temperature increases to 1.5C (2.7F) was “barely within reach." “As COP27 gets under way, our planet is sending a distress signal,” said Guterres, who described the report as “a chronicle of climate chaos”. Earth has warmed more than 1.1C since the late 19th century with roughly half of that increase occurring in the past 30 years, the report showed. Surface water in the ocean hit record-high temperatures in 2021 after warming especially fast during the past 20 years.
