— MPC political leader says opposition collaboration can’t solve the country’s problemsThe political leader of the Movement for Progressive Change (MPC) has said that the solutions to Liberia’s numerous problems cannot be found in the amalgamation of forces within the opposition. According to Simeon Freeman, the country is in need of a visionary leader who has the capacity and capability to take the Liberia to the next level, which is difficult to achieve through political collaboration. Freeman noted that political collaboration has no history of solving Liberia’s problems -- citing the “dismal performance” of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change, which comprised three political parties. Political leaders, who are bent on forming collaborations, are a bunch of pretenders who want to take advantage of the Liberian people,” Freeman said. If we don’t look in that direction, we will make the terrible mistake of replacing a terrible leader with another terrible leader,” Freeman added.

MONROVIA – Independent Presidential aspirant Franklin Obed Siakor has accused the National Elections Commission (NEC) of refusing to accept his letter of intent and notarized petition lists as part of requirements outlined by the NEC in its election’s regulations and guidelines relating to political parties and independent candidates. But to his surprise, Mr. Siakor said the NEC refused to accept his letter of intent and the accompanying document. NEC has no right to change the rules and to apply the rules selectively,” Siakor said in a statement issued recently. At the NEC headquarters, Siakor said the political officer provided clarifications that helped them in the process until the very end. But other independent candidates and political parties have used the same voter cards we used to get certificate from NEC,” he added.

The Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) has announced a series of planned power cuts as it is unable to meet domestic peak demand. The situation, according to the state power company, was to institute load-shedding (power cut) operations to reduce available electricity imports. “CI Energies, the electricity supplier through the Transco-CLSG transmission lines, can no longer supply Liberia with electricity beyond contracted capacity,” the statement added. But a year later, after the switching on of the Transco and the signing of the power supply agreement with CI Energies and Ivory Coast, the issue of regular power supply still remains a problem, with unannounced power cuts becoming more frequent. However, no customer will be affected for more than eighteen continuous hours,” LEC says.

The prevailing biometric registration process is not genuine but pseudo because the current voter registration process is in reality an OMR registration in disguise. The only difference between the current purported biometric registration and the former OMR registration is the quality of the voter card. In challenging environments such as Liberia, a genuine biometric voter registration process would entail the collection of data accompanied by the provision of voter registration cards at most after seven (7) days. The actions include:LAXTON, the Vendor selected by the National Elections Commission (NEC) to implement the Biometric Voter Registration Project has very limited experience with the conduct of biometric voter registration in a challenging environment like Liberia. This decision has the potential to disenfranchise many Liberians in the face of the limited awareness that attended the prelude to the so-called biometric voter registration process.

President George Weah is an "irresponsible leader" while Joseph Boakai, his main challenger for the presidency, is a grandfather who is not capable of running the country, says Alexander Cummings of the opposition Collaborating Political Parties. For things to really change in our country, we must not just change ruling parties, we must change ruling principles. The pair's relationship has been muddy since failing to unite in a coalition of four opposition political parties to defeat President George Weah. This is why a wasteful and irresponsible leader cannot be expected to run a responsible government,” says Cummings. We all know by now, that President Weah will do nothing about what the American Ambassador has said and reported from what he saw.

By Selma Lomax, [email protected]Historically, Bong County has always been the stronghold of Howard-Taylor’s National Patriotic Party (NPP), since the days of former Liberian President Charles Taylor. “The vice president has been tested and proven politically in the body politics of the country. The CDC has lost three successive by-elections in Bong County since President Weah was elected in 2017 – 2018, 2020 and 2021 – seemingly because of internal fight within the CDC Bong Chapter. Bong County has a history of always queuing behind whoever they think represents their best interest. It is perhaps this sentiment that Howard-Taylor hoped to stoke in during the interactive session with a group of central region political leaders under the banner “Central Region for Weah-Taylor”.
