The mid-term senatorial election is expected to take place in Liberia on December 8, 2020, according to the National Elections Commission (NEC). Women leaders from WIPNET, WONGOSOL, Rural Women Leadership, among others were part of the meeting held with the ex-Liberian leader. The recent demonstrations against the intensity of rape cases in Liberia are commendable, in that, they shed light on one of society’s disgusting crimes. Yes, I am not unaware of the risk associated with a call to de-emotionalize criminal justice amidst the growing waves of violent crimes including rape across our country. It may be recalled that during the early days of the campaign for the passage of the rape law, I had a debate on BBC with Cllr. Hence, incidents of rape are being negotiated and compromised at community level due to the harshness of the Rape Law. Also, I am not trying to bemoan harsher punishment for rape offenders; far from it.

Liberia: Notorious Armed Robber Yet to Be Arraigned before Court Three Weeks of Capture By PoliceMONROVIA – It’s been almost a month since notorious armed robber, Kesselly Mulbah alias Kezo, was taken down by police in a fire exchange in Diggsville after one of his robbery sprees that led to the death of a community watchdog member, but the well-known armed robber who survived the bullets is yet to be forwarded to court by the police. Kesselly’s latest armed robbery incident that landed him at the JFK pending being arraigned before court occurred on August 14 when he and his team terrorized members of the Diggsville Community. Mulbah was incarcerated in April of 2018, for suspected robbery and criminal conspiracy, illegal possession of fire arms and theft of property. On 23 July 2008, President, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, signed into law an Act amending the Penal Law of 1976, which make the crimes of armed robbery a non-bailable capital offence, punishable by hanging. It, however, not clear the grounds on which Judge Wollor ordered the release of suspect Mulbah and the subsequent release of his vehicle.

In this regard, the Standing Orders of the Civil Service, signed by the President of Liberia, supported by the Humana Resource Management Policy of the Civil Service, represents the rules and regulations that govern the conduct as well as addresses the grievances of Civil Servants. The Decent Work Act (Liberia’s Labor Law) does not apply to Civil Servants and organizations for and of Civil Servants. Issues affecting all Civil Servants are addressed through processes prescribed in the Standing Orders and the Human Resource Management Policy. The Management of the CSA are also available to address all other concerns you may have regarding management, employment, pay, and other issues of concern to Civil Servants.

The Workers Union under the banner General Agriculture and Allied Workers Union of Liberia (GAAWUL) termed the allegation as false; deceptive and misleading. “We gathered a media report yesterday that workers are planning to demonstrate but that is not to our knowledge. We launched our own independent investigation and we have not gathered anything yet that workers at the plantation are planning to demonstrate. Mr. Kandakai further termed the working relationship between the management of MPOP and the workers and employees as “cordial” as evidenced by the peaceful working environment.
