MONROVIA – The Liberia Business Association (LIBA) and the United Kingdom-Liberia Chamber of Commerce, have brainstormed on trade and investments that could help boost the Liberian economy that is struggling for improvement. According to her, the agreement also highlights collaboration and partnership between the Liberia Business Association and members of the UK-Liberia Chamber of Commerce that could benefit the Liberian Government and its people who are eagered for huge and sustainable investments that might agument their living standards. She mentioned that more interactions will be looked at between Liberian businesses and UK-LIBERIA Chamber to expand the partnership; thus showcasing the potential of Liberian businesses and their products that are more marketable at home and abroad. According to the head of LIBA, the collaboration could strengthen partnership to enhance the promotion of trade and investments that the country presently yearning for. He also renewed call to the Liberian Government to aid LIBA that is the backbone for all indigenous-owned businesses currently operating in every sector in Liberia.

The Act, a copy of which FrontPageAfrica has obtained, is titled “An Act to Grant Immunity from Both Civil and Criminal Proceeding against All Persons within the Jurisdiction of the Republic of Liberia From Acts or Crimes Committed During the Civil War From December 1989 to August 2003.”This Act was published on August 8, 2003. FrontPageAfrica has not been able to fully ascertain why this act continues to remain the shadows. It was, however, not repealed before the establishment of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) that called for the establishment of such court. Amnesty in Other CountriesThe Act granting amnesty to all members of warring action in the 2003 Act of the Legislature is not unique to Liberia. Gbarnga, BONG COUNTY – Bong County Superintendent Esther Walker could be dismissed for stating that the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) lost the December 8, 2020 Special Senatorial elections because the party threatened to dismiss local officials in the county if they didn’t support the party’s candidate. If that doesn’t stop it would be difficult for us to win Bong County in the 2023 presidential elections”, Superintendent Walker said. “I told them to vote their choice and not to be moved by all the dismissal threats,” said Superintendent Walker. Superintendent Walker made the statement in the presence of Bong County Senator Prince Moye (Unity Party, Collaborating Political Parties) at a program in Kokoyah Statutory District. Monrovia – A leaked letter seen by this paper has put a new twist to the protracted saga involving Mr. Amos T.K Brosius and Judge Eva Mappy Morgan, Chief Judge of the Commercial Court at the Temple of Justice in Monrovia. The letter, which authentication has been duly established, was written by Associate Justice Yusuf D. Kaba, who is also chair of the Judiciary Inquiry Commission. Addressed to Chief Justice Francis Korkpor, the letter informs the Chief Justice about the outcome of the Judiciary Inquiry Committee’s investigation into the complaint filed by Mr. Brosius. The leaked letter has surfaced just a day ahead of the Supreme Court’s hearing into an appeal by Judge Mappy Morgan against the JIC recommendation that calls for her suspension for one year. Brosius’ assertions of MOTC’s operating “his” account is therefore wholly unfortunate and nothing more than a deliberate campaign to defame MOTC and probably Judge Mappy Morgan and the Liberian judiciary,” the release concluded.

Meanwhile, Nyanplu wants Liberians to join the struggle to halt what he calls, secret amendment the Petroleum Law of Liberia against the interest of citizens. Declaring the 2019 amendment unconstitutional, Nyanplu said a team of legal practitioners, to include Cllr. Kofi Woods and Law Professor Kabineh Ja’neh are all in readiness to seek legal redress to the citizens’ plight.

Also in rural Montserrado County, SHED is engaged in poultry production which is serving as source of livelihood for rural women who not have access to sources of income. The rural women are being trained in poultry production and provided chickens to run their own poultry and generate income for their livelihood.

MONROVIA – With financial support from the United Nations High Commission for Human Rights in Liberia, through the EU spotlight initiative, the Liberia NGOs Network is said to have complimented four of the five counties, conducting awareness on Sexual Gender Base Violence SGBV and Female Genetic Mutilation FGM and other human rights abuses in Liberia. Grand Cape Mont, Lofa, Nimba and Montserrado Counties are the five counties with Grand Geddeh remaining. LINNK begins its five counties activities in Grand Cape Mont County with a town hall meeting bringing together local authorities, citizens and police to dialogue on the issue of SGBV and FGM. During the dialogue, traditional leaders said, at times when police officers are carrying on their duties, they do things against traditional practices, and something they said is an abomination to the tradition of the country. Other issues discussed during the dialogue by participants and facilitators including stakeholders in the counties range from rape, sexual abuse, FGM early marriage/teen-age pregnancy and child abuse, among others.

Kakata, Margibi County – The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Mines & Energy, and with support from the United Nations Development Program-UNDP through the Environmental Governance Programme funded by SIDA Monday began a two-day training workshop for multi-stakeholders including artisanal and small scale miners on Environment Monitoring and Human Rights. The theme: “strengthening governance, human rights and environmental management for the artisanal mining sector in Liberia through user-friendly tools, awareness and capacity building,” is focused on enhancing the capacity of multi stakeholders for managing, monitoring, reporting and awareness to ensure improved environmental compliance. This training workshop will enhance the capacity of the stakeholders to monitor and report on environmental activities within their environment. Representing the UNDP, the program Coordinator of UNDP-Liberia E. Abraham T. Tumbey Jr. noted that over the years the ASM sector has been identified by the Ministry of Mines as a sector with potential amidst the many challenges. The over 30 participants of the training workshop included representatives from Civil Society, Independent Human Rights Commission, Gender Ministry, Mining Cooperatives and the media.

Liberia: Runaway Child Rescued In Nimba; Says He was Running from Grandma to Walk to Mother in MonroviaMONROVIA – A 14-year-old boy called “Success”, who was seen travelling on foot to find his mother in Monrovia, has been rescued and handed over to the civil authorities in the township of Kpain in Lao Chiefdom, Meinpea-Mah District, Nimba County. He said both his father and mother are from the town of Karnplay, toward the border with Ivory Coast, but right now his mother lives in Monrovia. He has added to the family of the town chief for the more than two weeks he’s been there. Authorities of the township were over the weekend dispatching a delegation headed by Commissioner William T. Whenda, to meet the Nimba County chapter of the Liberia National Red Cross for urgent assistance. The only help so far has come from a few citizens of Nimba.
