I congratulated Galan because he played the game with intensity, with enthusiasm, with a desire to play. I like that Galan is rebellious, and even though players make mistakes, I like soccer players who always want to compete. Coke and De Paul entered with great enthusiasm and also showed the rebellion you talk about…I think Verona’s second half was one of the best of the season: for danger, for defending high, for defending well. He won doubles in the first half and that is boding very well for Lugo’s future. It seems that the team improved in the second half.

Important facts here are: one, the so-called ‘plan’ that prioritises these programmes seems to be only known to the President. Officially, there is no formal strategic document to guide the public service on the Bottom-up Economic Transformational Agenda (BETA). Parliament was allocated Sh41 billion, the Judiciary Sh23.2 billion and the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) Sh53.5 billion. ILO standards of employment in the country as at December 2023 show 80 per cent of Kenyans are working poor.

The President didn’t name these “individuals” and perhaps he had reasons not to. The President’s barbs at unnamed, shady cartels financing litigation against his administration's agenda, took me back to a period that would have been 40 years ago last May. Following this, Moi relieved Njonjo of his Cabinet post on June 29, and appointed a Commission of Inquiry to look into the traitor issue. Surely, the country’s security agencies know the individuals behind the cartels that are a thorn in the government’s side, and if that is the case, President Ruto should name them without fear or favour and bring them to justice. Such a move would make him an instant hero, even with those who hitherto haven’t been his supporters, and if the cartels fought back, it would no longer be a shadowboxing match.
