The Ministry of Public Service now says accounting officers in all government departments must police use of social media. The ministry's circular says social media posts by some civil servants aggravated unrest in the country. Gathecha wants government departments to regularly train their staff on professionalism especially during the time of social media activism. The training should not be affected by budget cuts to ensure all staff align to the new social media policy.

Four foreign nationals who police say are Ethiopians were on Wednesday arrested in Mlolongo, Machakos county for allegedly being in the country illegally. They approached them and upon inquiry, the four were established to be Ethiopians," a police report seen by the Star reads in part. "They didn't have any documents allowing them to be in the country and were arrested," the report adds. Some Ethiopians have been fleeing their country since the Tigray region was plunged into conflict in 2020.
