The BBC admitted on Monday that the editing of the speech was an “error of judgment”. “While the BBC sincerely regrets the manner in which the video clip was edited, we strongly disagree there is a basis for a defamation claim,” the BBC said.

They had to hand over their identity documents including birth and marriage certs and driving licences. They encountered a difficulty when they sought to have their Irish-born children admitted to school in the new jurisdiction because birth certs were required. They complained in their High Court action that the failure by the State to supply them with altered birth certificates had greatly complicated their life in that foreign state. It appears possible from the evidence of other jurisdictions to provide for a system under which new birth certificates can be issued, he said.

[ From Housing for All to Rebuilding Ireland: How did other housing plans perform?Opens in new window ]Social Democrats deputy leader Cian O’Callaghan claimed the housing plan “contains the same recipe for failure” as the three previous housing policies. The Irish Planning Institute (IPI) welcomed the plan but its president Gavin Lawlor warned “it will take time for our housing delivery system to get from where we are now to where we need to be to deliver the ambitious housing targets”. I work mainly on inherited bleeding disorders, which include well-known ones such as haemophilia and lesser-known ones like von Willebrand disease. If there is a bleeding disorder, the bleeding can be very heavy, to the point where it impacts the person’s health. And around the time of birth, if a woman has an unmanaged bleeding disorder, that puts her at risk of heavy bleeding. In Ireland we punch above our weight in diagnosing von Willebrand disease and women with bleeding disorders because of our clinical centre and our research at the Irish Centre for Vascular Biology. Our Low Von Willebrand in Ireland Cohort study, which is funded through the Health Research Board, is now the largest dedicated study of patients with low von Willebrand factor in the world.

That was perhaps not too surprising given the average Irish pension fund amounts to less than a tenth of that €2 million figure. “People are being asked to plan for retirement without fully understanding the most important aspects of how pensions work,” Colm Power, managing director at NFP Ireland, said.
