A group of Limerick locals who saved their last pub in Kilteely have inspired a short film, which will premiere at Dublin International Film Festival. To keep the only pub in Kilteely from closing its doors, 26 locals invested €300,000 to buy Ahern’s after the previous owners decided to retire. Now, the group behind The Street Bar will make their film debut as they have been cast in The Pub That Refused To Die, a short film commissioned by Heineken and directed by Gar O’Rourke. One of stakeholders, Limerick barrister Liam Carroll told the Irish Examiner that Heineken were "very supportive" when they shared the news. The Kilteely pub, previously owned by the Ahern family, was on the market following the retirement of Noreen Ahern after 40 years of service.

It’s probably because he can’t exercise. Read More Dr Phil Kieran: My sporty son says he feels tired all the timeWe know that exercise has protective effects for low mood and also that, where possible, increasing exercise in those with mood disorders can help to improve their symptoms. For people with an injury, it can be easy to focus on what they can’t do rather than what they can. For those interested in the health benefits of exercise, I strongly recommend a YouTube video by Dr Mike Evans titled 23 and ½ hours. Mirror Football reported on Monday that United are weighing up a shock bid for their arch rivals’ midfielder. ‌Mac Allister, who won the Premier League under Arne Slot last season, has failed to reach the same heights this season, which has largely been a difficult campaign for the South American. The German heaped praise on the "incredible" Mac Allister after just a few months of working with him. "He is a fantastic player and I love everything about him," said Klopp. In April 2024, Mac Allister rescued crucial points against Sheffield United with a long-ranged strike, which led to Klopp speaking about his influence from anywhere on the pitch.

It seems the Apple really doesn't fall far from the tree as her famous mother Gwyneth was also called out for her 'diva' antics as a young woman. Apple seemingly learned her 'mean girl' behaviour from her lookalike mother, whom was also privy to a luxurious lifestyle most cannot fathom. The 21-year-old has already landed a slew of high-profile modelling jobs with the help of her Oscar-winning actress mother and Coldplay frontman father Chris Martin. Her late father Bruce had also told Gwyneth that young fame had turned her into a bit of a 'brat'. Afterwards, a source close to Paltrow told DailyMail.com that her daughter is a 'girls' girl' not a 'mean girl'.

Love Island's Belle Hassan has revealed her support for the Flat Earth conspiracy theory. In an unseen clip, shared by Love Island's TikTok account, Belle asked fellow islander Ciaran Davies: 'Is the Earth flat or round?' You can explain this to Flat Earthers using the simple analogy of a magnet. Flat Earthers believe that the world must be flat to prevent people in the Southern Hemisphere from being 'upside down'. A gold medal is now worth close to $2,000 (€1,690) according to its analysts – compared with just under $500 in 2018. [ Gold prices have rocketed, and when that happens it is time to worryOpens in new window ]As worries about inflation and a faltering global economy have grown over the past year, the value of gold and silver has surged. “What has changed the fundamental plumbing is ‘de-dollarisation’,” says Stephen Flood of Dublin-based gold and silver bullion dealer GoldCore. This, he says, is the reason for the headlong rush into gold and silver. Norman says “some of the froth” did come off gold in recent weeks following Trump’s walkback on Greenland.

A new scheme to provide more attractive investment options to households is an idea worth exploring. Change may be needed, though within a framework that capital taxes in Ireland generally remain relatively low. The second key issue is whether special incentivised products are needed to encourage savers to move funds into investments. There are, as Harris has said , international models which generally offer a tax advantage for putting money into investments, subject to certain limits. The banks will lose some deposits, but as they own much of the wealth management industry they will pick up business, too.

Consecutive defeats to Zimbabwe men’s cricket team and Sri Lanka men’s cricket team left Australia needing other results to stay alive in the tournament. Australia required Zimbabwe to lose to Ireland, but the match was abandoned without a ball being bowled, handing Zimbabwe the crucial point needed to secure a top-two finish. FA Cup fourth round: Macclesfield 0 Brentford 1Macclesfield were unable to recreate the magic of last month’s FA Cup win over Crystal Palace, with a Sam Heathcote own goal sending Brentford through to the fifth round after a spirited contest at Moss Rose. A Bees side showing seven changes could not match the will or the skill of a Macclesfield team with a taste for giant-killing and the promise of a fifth-round trip to West Ham awaiting. Macclesfield dominated the first period, first to every ball and bristling with an intent that their more glamourous opponents could not come near. A rare break from Brentford saw Max Dearnley save well from Reiss Nelson but the half-time stalemate flattered the visitors. A moment of indecision from goalkeeper Hakon Valdimarsson almost let Macclesfield substitute James Gale in but moments later the decisive goal arrived.
