The unnamed Düsseldorf officer in her 30s altered her gender from man to woman last May in line with a new “self-determination” regulation passed by the last federal government. The law came into effect a year ago to assist transgender, intersex and non-binary people to change their gender and name entry in official records and documents. However this is not the first time an applicant has been accused of exploiting the gender self-determination law. For Christoph Arnold, lawyer for the Düsseldorf police officer, her employer’s case is doomed to fail.

If there were any rumours of Robbie Henshaw’s demise, or even thoughts along those lines, it seems they were premature. He backed that up with an equally energetic display at outside centre in the absence of Garry Ringrose against Australia. Although Henshaw was injured after the squad was picked, missing out on a second Lions tour still hurt, especially when 18 Irish teammates were chosen. Focusing on myself, I enjoyed preseason and the last few weeks.”It’s easy to forget that Henshaw is still only 32. It’s incredible.”Ireland’s Robbie Henshaw makes a pass as Harry Wilson and Len Ikitau of Australia close in during last Saturday's Test at the Aviva Stadium.

Irish authorities said they have “provided extensive consular assistance” in the child abduction case. Photograph: Brian Lawless/ PA WireTánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Harris asked his Polish counterpart for help in resolving a child abduction case involving a young girl with dual Irish-Polish citizenship. In May 2025, a Polish court ruled that the Irish-born young girl should be brought back to Ireland as her mother relocated her to Poland without her father’s consent. The father has issued legal proceedings against the Irish Government, claiming it has “abandoned” his daughter by failing to help locate her. Child abduction is deemed to have occurred when a child is removed from a person who has legal custody without that person’s consent.

When Tony O’Brien became chairman of the Peter McVerry Trust six months ago, the charity had been mired in controversy for more than a year. “But I actually think that’s not the case and I think the trust is salvaged already and we’re on a journey to renewal and rehabilitation.”Still, the road to recovery is long. A €15 million rescue package from the Minister for Housing in late 2023 had kept the trust afloat. The trust, established in 1983 by Jesuit priest Fr Peter McVerry, provides housing for 1,900 and prevention, addiction and homelessness services for 12,000. The bottom line is the 2023 accounts come with heavy qualifications from auditors Azets.

Compared to Wellington, this was old-school South Africa. South Africa have now arrived in Dublin believing, more than ever, that the world is against them.

Photograph: Conor O Mearain/PA WireThe Coalition is considering longer wait times for citizenship for those with refugee status and tighter rules on family reunification for migrants. Senior Government figures believe a harder line from Britain risks driving more people to seek international protection here. Coalition leaders were briefed on Monday about separate plans – already in train before the UK moves – to overhaul the Irish system. Those with international protection status will have to be self-sufficient and not owe accommodation costs. Any necessary changes arising from the UK’s change of policy can be included in an international protection Bill coming later this year, he said.

Marlet bought the site adjacent to St Anne’s Park in 2015 with a view to providing a significant number of homes. Any effect on efforts to provide housing for people in the area, however, is acceptable. In the middle of a housing crisis, it is becoming increasingly clear that the actual provision of homes is bottom of the heap in terms of priority under the planning system as structured. Even politicians now understand that housing is the single most pressing social and political issue of our time. Unless other elements of the planning process are also required to compromise, there is no chance of addressing the housing crisis and every chance of growing social exclusion with the risks that brings.

The increasing role of non-bank lenders in the financial system, not regulated in the same way as banks, is also seen as a potential concern. Irish banks, businesses and households are judged to be in a relatively resilient position to face any shock. But the bank warns that more needs to be done.

Fines totalling €440,000 were issued to 21 M50 toll evaders—including one driver with more than a thousand unpaid trips — after they failed to appear in court. However, the debts kept mounting with eFlow, which operates the barrier-free tolling system for Transport Infrastructure Ireland, and the court prosecution followed. Molloy was apologetic, telling the court he had since scrapped his car, and “I’m no longer driving, I use public transport now”. A woman who made no payments toward her 1,032 tolls and did not appear in court was fined €25,000.
