The Irish professor who lost more than €1 million to investment scammers holds up a phone showing a website used as part of the scam operation supposedly based in Switzerland. He spoke to a garda who agreed to look into Glenstone Advisory while the professor waited in the lobby. However, its listed address is the same as two other companies with similar names: Glenstone Advisory and Capital AG, and Glenstone Capital IV. Glenstone Advisory and Capital AG has been in business since 2017 and is properly registered with the Swiss authorities. There is no evidence of a link between Glenstone Advisory and the other legitimately registered Glenstones.

Government documents obtained by The Irish Times detail one incident where a signal traced to Russia blocked a high-frequency radio channel. The channel is used by Irish air-traffic controllers to communicate with commercial aircraft over the Atlantic in emergency situations. In response the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) radio operations based in Co Clare were forced to open a new communications channel and take “mitigation measures”. An email detailing the September 2022 incident was sent by a department official to members of the National Civil Aviation Security Committee​​. They pose little danger on their own but demonstrate an ability to interfere with aircraft communications at will.

The departure of Paschal Donohoe from ministerial office is the most consequential political development since the general election. Adding to the complexity is that the UK government may face legal challenges to the implementation of some of its planned changes in Northern Ireland. A democratic socialist and little-known state lawmaker who won New York’s mayoral race earlier this month, Mr Mamdani requested the sit-down with Mr Trump, at the White House, to discuss cost-of-living issues and public safety. Inflation has been a big issue for Americans, and it’s one on which they give Mr Trump low marks.
