A massive 200 per cent tariff on Irish whiskey exports to the US would deal a “very serious blow” to the industry here, whiskey entrepreneur John Teeling has warned. “If this Tariff is not removed immediately, the U.S. will shortly place a 200 per cent Tariff on all WINES, CHAMPAGNES, & ALCOHOLIC PRODUCTS COMING OUT OF FRANCE AND OTHER E.U. Irish Whiskey Association director Eoin Ó Catháin said he was disappointed by the announcement and concerned that “it had come to this”. Currently a learner driver can have an unlimited number of learner permits if he or she does not pass their drive test. Currently the first two learner driver permits last two years each and subsequent ones one year each. The newly formed Gambling Regulatory Authority has, since Wednesday, taken control of the industry. The underlying goal of the legislation is to protect children and problem gamblers. Measures include advertising and sponsorship restrictions as well as banning industry-wide marketing practices such as free bets, free credit and hospitality. The authority’s remit encompasses all types of gambling so, for example, it will have oversight on draws run by local charities and sports clubs.
