According to him, the United States remains Ghana’s single largest source of remittances, contributing billions of dollars annually to the economy. “Between $1.5 billion and $2.5 billion comes into Ghana each year from hardworking Ghanaians living in the United States. The Minority also criticised the foreign minister’s handling of the situation, arguing that public exchanges have worsened rather than resolved the matter. “The President must immediately deploy a special envoy and establish a high-level task force to engage the United States and safeguard remittances and the welfare of Ghanaians. Politics of Tuesday, 20 January 2026Source: www.ghanaweb.comA campaign strategist for former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and former Member of Parliament for Suhum, Frederick Opare Ansah, has questioned the sincerity, credibility and political judgment of former Assin Central MP and NPP presidential aspirant Kennedy Agyapong. Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show with host Omanhene Kwabena Asante, the former legislator described Kennedy Agyapong’s conduct as reckless, divisive and injurious to party unity. He stressed that for the peace pact to serve its intended purpose, all aspirants must demonstrate discipline and respect, insisting that Kennedy Agyapong must first be called to order. In the video, Agyapong alleged that Dr Bawumia falsely told party delegates that Prof Adu Boahen was not retained due to ill health, repeatedly branding the former vice president a “serial liar.”However, it later emerged that Dr Bawumia never made such a statement. The comment was rather made by the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.

As tensions boiled over following the stoppage-time penalty awarded to Morocco, a decision that briefly saw Senegal’s players leave the field in protest, disorder also erupted among sections of the crowd. Senegalese supporters, angered by events unfolding on the pitch, reportedly clashed with stadium stewards in scenes that further darkened an already volatile final. According to reports from MauritanieFoot, fans hurled plastic chairs, struck stewards, and attempted to breach security barriers in an effort to force their way onto the pitch. Moroccan authorities later confirmed that 18 Senegalese supporters and one Algerian national were taken into police custody on charges described as hooliganism. An official investigation has since been opened to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incidents and identify those responsible.

“I have never seen a liar like our former flagbearer before,” Kennedy Agyapong declared, angrily accusing Dr Bawumia of making claims he never uttered. Leadership is not measured by how loudly one attacks colleagues but by the ability to exercise judgment, composure, and fairness, especially under pressure. Launching scathing personal attacks based on unfounded allegations that later prove false is not a show of strength; it is a sign of weakness. For a party that prides itself on discipline, intellect, and democratic values, this incident has become more than a campaign misstep. It is a moment of reflection on the character, emotional maturity, and leadership credentials required of anyone aspiring to lead Ghana.
