A source told Ghanaweb that, they do not know what is happening at the centre and nothing is happening there. “…We have not started voting, and you know the Asawase delegates are aged, they are been refused access to seat on a chair, so they are sitting on the floor. We just don’t know why they haven’t started voting, no communication, nothing.”One of Ghana’s longest-serving members of parliament, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka is seeking to serve the members of his constituency for the sixth time.

GhanaWeb captured the two sets of supporters exchanging words and jostling with each other as they bid to get one of the other. Reports indicate the police, who massed heavily at the centre intervened quickly to avert what could have turned into a bloodbath. The clash comes on the back of reports some thugs had invaded the voting centre and intimidated delegates. He claimed that these men are reported to be from Tamale and have been positioned at some vantage points within the voting area. We have also seen some guys are were part of the congress at Cape Coast and are from Tamale.

Joy News reports that some of the delegates cursed the party’s treasurer for the frustration they were enduring in their bid to get the monies that have been given to the constituency executives of the party. Some of the delegates who spoke to the station also lashed out at the executives and accused them of scheming to keep a significant amount of the money. Delegates of the National Democratic Congress are currently casting their ballots for the presidential and parliamentary candidates for the 2024 elections. In the presidential race, John Dramani Mahama is highly tipped to see off competition from former Kumasi Mayor, Kojo Bonsu to lead the party in the 2024 elections. The parliamentary race is where expectations of major shocks are rife, with some known constituencies being contested by quite popular and astute persons.

Former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Defunct Unibank, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor Jnr who is running in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries in Sekyere Afram Plains Constituency has categorically stated that he will unseat his uncle in the race. Duffuor Jnr, who wants to enter the political arena, says it is about who can deliver for the people of the constituency and not just representation in parliament without impact. “The Sekyere Afram Plains Constituency needs a person who can mobilize resources and bring development. and thus relates to Duffuor Jnr as an uncle. Before then, he was Chief Operating Officer of Unibank for over three years.

Dr. Kwabena Duffuor filed a case in court on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, for an interlocutory injunction on the NDC primaries slated for Saturday, May 13, 2023. He cited anomalies with the NDC’s electoral album for his suit, following it up with a petition to the Electoral Commission. In court on May 12, the lawyer of Kwabena Duffour, Kofi Kukubor applied an application to have the case withdrawn. Based on this the Accra High Court struck out Dr Kwabena Duffour’s injunction application against the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s presidential and parliamentary primaries.
