A distraught Banku paid tribute to his mother and said since the passing of his father, his mother has been very supportive of his career. “I lost my father at a young age and so growing up my mother has been my everything which makes her death a big blow to me,” he added.

The opposition National Democratic Congress, will later today, brief the press on some recent electoral reforms proposals made by the Electoral Commission (EC) following a two-day IPAC meeting. The Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting said it was considering some 21 reforms including closing polls in the future on election days at 3:00pm instead of 5:00pm. The IPAC meeting was however without the NDC; the party has since the December 7, 2020 elections boycotted activities of the Commission. He added that “The IPAC invitation was sent to all the parties; if we had deliberately left out the NDC, then there would have been a problem.”Ahead of the next general elections, the NDC has hinted at capturing its electoral reforms proposal in a document. But some parties including the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) say the NDC’s absence at IPAC is a blessing in disguise for them.

Dr Abdullah said he would have thought that the funding for the UGMC would have built some centres for excellence in the country that can be able to pay the loan faster. “UGMC is basically a replica of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and for me, to some extent, it was some lack of understanding of our programmes. “We built UGMC without having a Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scan for instance as a country. Of course, we have the radiotherapy and radio oncology centre at Korle Bu but we should have cancer properly built centre with admission beds there for these patients. He said the young doctors coming up think the situation at the various hospitals is normal. Dr Abdullah challenged the media houses to campaign for defibrillators in the hospitals so that the government will wake up and fix it because a defibrillator should be something basic for a hospital in Ghana. “If at the end, our healthcare system is better, and I see the angel of death coming, I’ll be smiling,” he said.
