General News of Wednesday, 24 December 2025Source: Forestry CommissionStaff of the Wildlife Division of the Forestry Commission stationed at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) has seized 3,967 dried shark fins, with a total weight of 488 kg at the Swissport Cargo Centre. Staff were alerted by the Veterinary Services Directorate of KIA regarding the items which were initially declared as dried fish but upon inspection, it was found to contain dried shark fins contrary to the declaration provided. The seized dried fins were identified to have been harvested from the following species of sharks: Prionace glauca (Blue shark); Alopias vulpinus (Common thresher); Carchachinus falciformis (Silky shark) and Sphyrna mokarran (Hammerhead shark). Additionally, it ensures that trade is legal and sustainable and does not harm the species’ survival. The seized consignment is being held by FC, whilst the primary suspect has been handed over to the Airport Police Station for further investigations and prosecution.

Cole was sentenced by US District Judge Lawrence J. Vilardo after he was earlier convicted on charges of extortion. “Cole improperly accessed an individual’s (Victim) Snapchat account and obtained nude photographs that the Victim had stored in his Snapchat account. Subsequently, the Victim learned that some of his Snapchat contacts had received the nude photographs,” Assistant US Attorney Aaron J. Mango explained. Following his arrest, Abu Cole was detained after appearing before US Magistrate Judge Michael J. Roemer on June 10, 2025.

The statement said, “The Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Northern Regional Police Command on Sunday, December 21, 2025, at about 10:30am, received a complaint of baby theft at One Heart Hospital, located at Lamashegu, a suburb of Tamale.”It said, “Preliminary reports indicate that a lady disguised as a nurse of the facility, visited the labour ward and picked the newly born baby boy belonging to the complainant’s sister under the pretext of going to administer an injection.”It said, “Police have since arrested suspects Abubakari Fatima Bintu, Grace Asiedu Mensah, both of whom are nurses and were on duty at the facility together with Abukari Iddi, the security guard on duty at the time of the incident to assist with investigations.”The statement said, “Intelligence operations are underway to find the baby and arrest other suspects involved.”

Bawumia leads with 56% amongst committed NPP voters in latest Global InfoAnalytics pollHowever, a significant percent of delegates are still up for grabs as a total of 20% of delegates are either undecided or did not want to disclose their votes. According to the survey, which was conducted through a random computer assisted telephone interviews of about 3000 delegates, Kennedy Agyapong made 13% gains on his November output, while Dr Bawumia moved closer to the 50% threshold by 2 percent. In another survey, the committed voters model, Global InfoAnalytics reported that Dr Bawumia is still in the leading with 56%, while Kennedy Agyapong is second at 39 % and Bryan Acheampong at 4%.
