ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Beyond2020, the UAE-driven humanitarian initiative launched by the Zayed Sustainability Prize and its partners, has improved access to safe drinking water for 9,000 people in the rural villages of Walessa, Holte, and Gato in Dirashe District, Ethiopia. The Beyond2020 deployment in Ethiopia was implemented by the Zayed Sustainability Prize finalist Solarkiosk Solutions, a German based company that provides rural, off-grid communities electricity, benefitting five million people to-date. Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, Director General of the Zayed Sustainability Prize, and COP28 President-Designate, said: "As we continue to push towards a more sustainable and equitable world, access to safe water remains a fundamental human right. The villages of Walessa, Holte, and Gato are in the low land areas where drinking water is scarce. Now, those water wells have been retrofitted with solar pumps, with each well supplying 20,000-25,000 litres of clean drinking water every day, which is enough to meet the village’s drinking, sanitation, and agricultural needs.

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia and Hungary have signed a new air service agreement, expanding flight frequencies between the two countries. The Director General of the Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority (ECAA) Getachew Mengstie, and his Hungarian counterpart, Mate Lowinger, signed the deal on Monday. The deal renewed the 1965 bilateral aviation deal on the basis of the development of the sector and commercial opportunities for the designated airlines of each side, per ECAA. The agreement allows the two airlines to operate 7 passenger and unlimited cargo flights each between Ethiopia and Hungary. This would create a huge market opportunity for Ethiopian Airlines, says the aviation authority.

DAR ES SALAAM, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- Tanzanian authorities said late Monday that they intercepted a fuel tanker ferrying 65 Ethiopian illegal immigrants in the southern highlands. Majid Mwanga, the Mlele district commissioner in the southern highlands region of Katavi, said the empty fuel tanker was intercepted at around 1 p.m. local time by officials from the immigration and the Tanzania Forest Services Agency. "The officials stopped the fuel tanker after they had noticed that its top covers were open," Mwanga told Xinhua in a telephone interview, adding that after inspecting the tanker they found the 65 illegal immigrants squeezed inside. Mwanga said the authorities took the illegal immigrants to the hospital for a medical check-up since they traveled in a tanker that might have been contaminated with fuel. Mwanga added the fuel tanker was heading to Zambia from the Mwanza Region.

Following a district championship season, Wylie East graduated starter Jaedon Hubbard and backup Maddox Fuller, who both earned snaps at the varsity level last season. He’s quick enough that Wylie East is also considering him on special teams in the return game. “We’ve played mobile quarterbacks, and we did a really good job of stopping those guys by making them one-dimensional. The African Union (AU) said it was holding a meeting on Monday on the crisis in Niger following the coup on July 26 that ousted President Mohamed Bazoum. “AU’s Peace & Security Council meets to receive an update on the evolution of the situation in Niger and the efforts to address it,” the pan-African body said in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
