City, who could complete a rare domestic and European double if they beat Chelsea in May 29th’s Champions League final, ended their wait to be confirmed as league winners when second-placed Manchester United lost at home to Leicester. “This has been a season and a Premier League title like no other,” the Spaniard said. While Guardiola is now clearly focused on getting his hands on his first Champions League trophy since his 2011 win with Barca, he said there was a real sense of satisfaction in coming out on top on the home front. “At the start of every season, the Premier League is the most important title for us,” he said. Only by being the very best, week in week out, can you win this competition.

UEFA has moved this month's Champions League final between Manchester City and Chelsea from Istanbul to Porto, according to Turkish media reports on Tuesday. European soccer's governing body declined to comment on the reports from the media outlets, which included television channel HaberTurk, while Turkish Football Federation officials were not immediately available for comment. The UK government placed Turkey on its travel 'red list' on Friday, effectively ruling out the opportunity for supporters of the English clubs to attend the game. Porto emerged on Monday as an option to host the final. Portugal is currently in the last phase of easing a lockdown and expects to lift travel restrictions from May 17.

CAIRO – 11 May 2021: On May 11, the original external gate of the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir has been re-installed. This gate was dismantled months ago and preserved in the museum's garden, replaced with another modern gate on a temporary basis to allow a smooth exit of the cars carrying the royal mummies on the day of the Pharaohs’ Golden Parade. Director of the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Sabah Abdul Razek explained that the original external iron gate of the Egyptian Museum was dismantled months before the event to preserve it and facilitate the exit of the mummies since studies indicated that the narrow distance between the two sides of the door after opening, would make it difficult for the cars to exit, so the original gate was dismantled by specialists and they manufactured another temporary iron gate to allow an easy exit. Abdul Razek said the museum's original outdoor gate was restored in 2020 for the first time since it was damaged in 2011.

The Al-Azhar Council of Senior Scholars has responded to calls to include females into military service, stressing that “the recruitment of females is not necessary under Sharia.”“Islam has created an alternative for women to participate in wars and military actions, which is good cohabitation with their husbands, Hajj and Umrah,” the council explained. “Women are not required to be fighters or female soldiers in the ranks of the army, because this is a disrespect for her, especially with regard to her mixing with men in the army. The period of pregnancy for a woman also represents a period of divine conscription for her. The work of a woman in her home, having children and then taking care of them and managing her family affairs is more severe than the conscription of a man,” a statement by the council read. The council added that the only cases in which women may join the armed forces, is for administrative or medical work or providing services away from combat matters.

Head of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) Osama Rabie said on Sunday that Egypt has offered to reduce its compensation claims to the owners of the container ship that closed the canal in March by a third. The Ever Given and its cargo are still being held in the Suez Canal, and the ship’s insurance company is refusing to compensate the authority for the blockage. While the ship was stuck, Egypt estimated a daily US$12 to US$15 million in losses. The authority claims that compensation is needed to cover the loss of transit fees, damage to the waterway during dredging and rescue efforts, and the cost of equipment and labor. The 400-meter-long Ever Given is owned by the Japanese company Shoei Kisen Kaisha Ltd., and it was chartered by the Taiwanese Evergreen Line company when the canal blockage accident occurred.

CAIRO – 11 May 2021: The only way to protect Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem is to be frequented by Muslims worldwide, religious advisor to the president has said. “There is no way to protect Al-Aqsa Mosque except to put it under the popular protection of all Muslims by continuous influx of Muslims from all over the world to Al-Aqsa Mosque to visit and protect,” Sheikh Osama al-Azhary said Monday on Instagram. Israeli police have clashed with Palestinian worshippers at Al-Aqsa Mosque as well as Palestinians in Sheikh Jarrah district in Jerusalem, causing over 300 injuries among Palestinian people so far. However, in 2021, Egypt’s Grand Mufti at the time, Sheikh Ali Gomaa, made an unofficial visit to Al-Aqsa. The Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt and in Gaza condemned the visit because it “recognized Israel,” but Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said Jerusalem needs Muslims to visit and stop the alteration of its character.
