On Wednesday at 9:30 p.m. PT, Japan initiated the release of radioactive water from a nuclear power plant managed by Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO), more than a decade after the facility sustained catastrophic damage. On March 11, 2011, the Fukushima Daiichi plant was devastated by a massive magnitude 9.0 earthquake that triggered powerful tsunami waves, resulting in the meltdowns of three of its reactors. This incident stands as one of the most severe nuclear catastrophes in world history. The plant operator has indicated it will release the water in small quantities, with a number of safety checks in place. The initial release totalling 7,800 cubic metres (equivalent to about three Olympic-sized swimming pools), will occur over a span of approximately 17 days.

Now that rankings are out for defensemen and goalies, it may not be too surprising for Stars fans to see Heiskanen and Oettinger rank highly. The Stars goalie had the best season of his professional career last year, posting a 37-11 record with 1,633 saves and five shutouts. Before the start of the 2022-23 season, Oettinger signed a three-year contract with Dallas worth $4 million annually.

Gas prices have gone up 35 cents in the past month as Labor Day approaches. Looking over a longer time frame, one of the major reasons fuel analysts say gas prices have increased is due to increasing crude oil prices. California gas prices are more sensitive to prices on international oil markets than the domestic market because the Golden State relies on overseas fuels. Despite higher gas prices, AAA expects to see a busy Labor Day weekend. De Haan said the blaze about 30 miles northwest of New Orleans should not affect California gas prices.

Almost 25% of employers use artificial intelligence (AI), such as automated-decision systems, to make employment-related decisions, according to a Society for Human Resource Management survey last year. This was the first recovery the EEOC has obtained in a case alleging unlawful discriminatory use of AI. The SEP recognizes employers’ increasing use of AI, especially in targeting job advertisements and recruiting and hiring employees. To combat “technology-related employment discrimination,” the EEOC says it will focus on how employers’ use of technology contributes to unlawful employment discrimination. Employers that discover, in developing a selection algorithm, that using the tool would have an adverse impact on a protected group should make adjustments.

Michelle Thompson saw the cracks forming in Nova Scotia's health-care system almost 30 years before running for public office, and ultimately becoming the province's health minister. Rather than finding ways to transform the system, governments looked to downsize, said Thompson. 'I have political will'Today, Nova Scotia — and every other province for that matter — can't get enough doctors and nurses. Two years after her party formed government, she said she finds herself in "a very critical and fortunate time" for health care. Thompson's government has also continued to build on the work of previous governments by expanding nursing seats in the province.

You can convert the rate of carbon into carbon dioxide equivalent by multiplying the figure by 3.67. In 2021, the territory emitted 1.287 megatonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent. The carbon dioxide equivalent emitted by wildfires this year (356.32 megatonnes) is 277 times more than what was emitted by humans in 2021 (1.287 megatonnes). (It has, however, if you compare it to Natural Resources Canada data which says fires that year emitted roughly 94.5 megatonnes of carbon in 2014). Québec is one of the areas of Canada that’s least affected by climate change, he explained, yet climate change still played a very big role in the fires there.
