SYDNEY, March 23, 2026 (BSS/AFP) - EU chief Ursula von der Leyen arrived in Australia on Monday, with hopes a free trade deal can be struck after years of negotiations. Von der Leyen is joined by EU trade commissioner Maros Sefcovic -- sparking speculation the two sides may finally put pen to paper on a long-awaited free trade deal. Australia's largest export market is China and the United States is its largest source of investment. Trade Minister Don Farrell last week said that an EU deal would add Aus$10 billion (US$7.1 billion) in trade for Australia in the first year. And Von der Leyen this month said the conflict had served as a "stark reminder" of the continent's vulnerabilities.

PHNOM PENH, March 23, 2026 (BSS/AFP) - A major energy supplier in Cambodia has said it will halt sales of liquefied petroleum gas from the start of next month due to supply disruptions resulting from the Middle East war. Sokimex, a supplier of premium cooking and burning fuel in the Southeast Asia nation, announced late Sunday that it would "temporarily suspend the supply of LPG effective from April 1". Due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, the company said it had been "unable to import LPG since the beginning of March 2026 and therefore cannot continue supplying LPG to customers according to market demand". Cambodian Energy Minister Keo Rottanak said in a video released on Monday that Sokimex contributed only about three percent of LPG to the Cambodian market, and told the public "not to worry" as six other companies were still supplying LPG in the country. He also urged people to turn to electric rice cookers and stovetops to conserve LPG, adding that the government was working to find new sources of supply.

I grew up playing and watching soccer games and knew next to nothing about baseball. We were having a clear view of the field until two tall men took the seats in front of us. In our last game, a young couple sat in front of us who seemed to have fallen in love that morning. They were holding hands, hugging, kissing and swinging heads and bodies from side to side in sync with the music. Another group of young men and a woman hold a long hose, with the boss holding the nozzle, watering the dirt areas.

NAIROBI, March 23, 2026 (BSS/AFP) - Torrential storms that have triggered flash floods in Kenya have killed at least 81 people this month, authorities said Sunday, as rain continued to pound much of the country. Flash floods submerged entire villages in Kisumu county, destroying around 1,200 hectares (3,000 acres) of farmland and sweeping away crops. "The cumulative number of fatalities has unfortunately risen to 81," national police spokesman Muchiri Nyaga said in a statement. The March rains have repeatedly turned Nairobi streets to raging rivers, flooding thousands of homes and businesses. Studies indicate east Africa has been hit by more extreme rains and droughts over the past two decades.

MILAN, Italy, March 23, 2026 (BSS/AFP) - Inter Milan's lead at the top of Serie A was cut to six points on Sunday after a 1-1 draw at Fiorentina, as upstarts Como boosted their hopes of Champions League football by hammering Pisa 5-0. Cher Ndour's 77th-minute tap-in earned Fiorentina a precious point in their bid to avoid relegation and slowed Inter's charge to a 21st league title. Robinio Vaz's first Roma goal was enough to keep the capital club in the top-four hunt and drop Lecce into the relegation zone in place of Jamie Vardy's Cremonese. Como had far too much for Pisa who look set to go straight back down to Serie B after promotion last season. Pisa sit bottom of the division, nine points behind Cremonese who are just outside the relegation zone.

CerviCheck is working to change that with a device that translates the cervix's physical properties into a reliable predictor of preterm birth. "[Preterm birth is] fundamentally a biomechanical failure," Butcher said. "Reading about 10% preterm birth is a lot different from talking with [the mothers]," she said, "and hearing about how both the mothers and the children have continued to live with the consequences." Nathan Briard ’28, who joined the mechanical team in his freshman spring, arrived through a different path. "We honed in on preterm birth after doing customer discovery, because the market was clear and the need was urgent."
