Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will leave Dhaka for Delhi on June 21 on a two-day state visit at the invitation of her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi. This will be Sheikh Hasina’s second trip to the Indian capital in less than 15 days, preceding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposed visit to Dhaka. Later on the same day, Sheikh Hasina will go to Hyderabad House to hold a tete-a-tete with Prime Minister Narendra Modi followed by delegation- level talks. Then they will attend a Banquet Luncheon hosted by the Prime Minister of India in honour of the Prime Minister of Bangladesh at Hyderabad House. In the afternoon, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will call on the Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar at his Secretariat.

Maj Gen (Retd) KM Shafiullah, one of the noted sector commanders in the Liberation War, has been admitted to the intensive care unit, or ICU, at a Dhaka hospital. “He [Shafiullah] is receiving treatment at the ICU of Dhaka’s Combined Military Hospital,” Habib said, citing the sector commander’s family. Shafiullah was second in command of the Second East Bengal Regiment in Joydevpur during the 1971 Liberation War. At the beginning of the Liberation War, Shafiullah was the commander of Sector 3. The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock says that 10,408,918 animals were sacrificed across Bangladesh during Eid-ul-Azha this year. “Last year, the number of sacrifices across the country was 10,041,812. “Compared to last year, the country sacrificed 367,106 more animals this year.”Dhaka Division saw the most sacrifices this year, while Mymensingh Division saw the least. Dhaka South City Corporation has fined five seasonal rawhide traders for conducting unauthorised trade on the streets, creating obstacles to public movement. The traders, operating in the Science Lab area of Dhaka, were fined a total of Tk 47,000 during mobile court proceedings conducted from 2:30pm to around 6:00pm on Eid-ul-Azha day on Monday.
