While speaking at a pharmaceutical plant’s inauguration today, President Mauricio Macri urged workers to cooperate with their employers rather than “throw wrenches in the works,” surprising most media outlets and pundits who expected him to talk about his recent setback in his attempt to raise gas prices. “The process [of economic growth] has already begun. Following last week’s Supreme Court ruling suspending gas bill increases for homes, the Macri administration called for a public hearing on September 12 to, once again, present its proposal to raise gas prices. The government still hopes to implement the rate hikes, which it deems crucial to fixing the country’s “energy crisis” and to improving the economy as a whole. Hearings are intended to inform the public and are not legally binding, however.

Vice President Gabriella Michetti found herself embroiled in controversy after her domestic employee, Norma Elizabeth Sánchez Rojas, declared that Michetti does not abide by the Labor Laws and severely underpays her. That’s 37 percent less than minimum wage for domestic employees, which is AR $6,322.50. The second most important authority in the country paid her employee half the legal value. Rojas made these statements in the context of the case investigating the theft of roughly AR $250,000 and US $50,000 from Michetti’s house. The money was allegedly stolen on November 22nd of last year: the same day that Macri won the ballotage elections.

In any case, Diego definitely looks good in a dress, and Ivanna can pull off a clean shaven head and a moustache. This scene goes a long way to describe Bife, the queer band Ivanna Colonna Olsen and Diego Fantin formed, but it’s hard to put the real essence of their work into words. Their songs are varied and include tangos, cumbias, jazz, bossanova, punk, pop, reggae and folk. Three weeks after they started playing together back in 2014, they had already recorded their first album, Con Amor, mostly composed of tangos and cumbias. “We feel like cultural production is one of the most important tools at everyone’s disposal to spread their ideals.” Ivanna and Diego clearly use this tool well.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is set to visit Argentina in September on a consultation mission for the first time in 10 years in order to evaluate the country’s economic policies and investigate the country’s economic outlook. IMF representatives will arrive in the country on September 19th and will stay for 13 days. Once they leave the country, the reports will go directly to the head of the IMF, Christine Lagarde, and its contents could be assessed in November. Back in January, Macri and Finance Minister Alfonso Prat-Gay said they would be opening Argentina’s doors to IMF audits once again. The IMF already sent a Technical Mission to Argentina in June this year to evaluate the quality of the official Consumer Price Index (CPI) and Gross Domestic Product (GDP) data.

Until all that is cleared up, Javier Zabaljauregui, the Deputy General Director of Customs Control, will be taking over. In an interview with Clarín on Sunday, Centurión assured he was “victim of a mob-like operation” involving former intelligence officers. They want to take down an official and a team who are investigating issues that have upset a lot of powerful people. Government and cgt remain on negotiating terms Monday, August 22, 2016 Peronist unions and Macri: a year of criticism but no strikesPresident Mauricio Macri’s relationship with Peronist trade unions has had its ups and downs — but as president it’s been a much more quiet one than what a casual observer would expect, given their different ideological backgrounds. That protest did not include a walkout either, in contrast to industrial action that took place during the last year of Cristina Fernández de Kirchner administration. While Moyano, Caló and others have sometimes spoken critically of Macri and suggested that a general strike could be on the cards, such a move never actually took place so far. The continued flow of state funds to union-run healthcare schemes, instead, has been central in keeping Macri and the Peronist unions on the same page. Unionists also see a good relationship with Macri as important, some say in order to avoid the close scrutiny that potential corruption cases, involving some of their representatives, could bring.
