In case you had forgotten, Maradona loves talking smack about Messi. He’s accused him of “lacking the personality to be a leader” and then, much like a high schooler, insisted he wasn’t insulting Messi when he, well, insulted him. He’s also recently accused Messi of “faking” his retirement from the national team. On being asked about his decision to leave Argentina’s National Team only to return two months later, he said:“When I said what I said, I’d made that decision. Or maybe it’s just Messi being Messi.

National lawmaker Margarita Stolbizer yesterday presented her book, “I accuse” (Yo acuso), in which she denounces sophisticated corruption schemes set up by former presidents Néstor Kirchner and Cristina Fernández de Kirchner. Nothing new from Stolbizer, considering Fernández practically can’t go to the bathroom without having Stolbizer waiting for her with a new claim of corruption. But the book does seem to consolidate Stolbizer’s position as the public figure who will most forcefully go after the previous administration with allegations of corruption. Society as a whole needs to make a serious commitment to never forget the lesson taught by Cristina Kircnher’s two administrations: Corruption kills,” Stolbizer said. Stolbizer and Massa appear close to sealing an alliance ahead of next year’s mid-term elections.

Within a few hours of President Mauricio Macri’s arrival to China, the president announced a key measure aimed to show goodwill toward the hosts of the G20 Summit: Chinese tourists will no longer need visas to visit Argentina. Yet even those who still need to get the visa will benefit, as the new document will be valid for five years, rather than the current 90 days. There are likely to be more announcements abut deals and agreements with China after Macri meets with his Chinese counterpart, President Xi Jinping tonight at 11PM (Argentina time). The Macri administration thinks there is a lot of room to grow there considering a whopping 100 million Chinese citizens travel internationally every year. If you had to go somewhere in the City of Buenos Aires today, you probably noticed that the streets, especially in the downtown neighborhoods close to Plaza de Mayo, are absolute chaos. Teachers will not attend school today and join the march, also demanding collective bargaining talks be reopened and better working conditions. The chances of their demands being met, at least in the Buenos Aires Province, seem to be close to zero. In an interview with TN, Buenos Aires province Governor María Eugenia Vidal, said her administration will not promise raises it can’t afford: “teachers and police make little money, they are right to protest. As President Mauricio Macri travels to China in order to promote foreign investment and to participate in the G-20, yesterday’s “Industry Day” brought national tensions to the forefront between the industrial sector and the government. The World Trade Organization (WTO) categorizes China as a “non-market economy,” (NME) but China has argued that should expire in December 2016 — hence Kaufmann Brea’s plea. Aside from fears on China obtaining recognition of MES by the Argentine government, there are also concerns within the declining sector. This week, the INDEC national statistics agency revealed the industrial sector plunged by 7.9 percent in July, marking the sixth consecutive month of decline and the worst drop in 14 years. This would imply further danger to an Argentine industry that would struggle to compete with cheaper imports.

At first, President Mauricio Macri was accused of holding his cards too close to his chest when it came to the question of whether he preferred Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump as the next president of the United States. Then, in an interview with Buzzfeed, he didn’t hesitate when he was asked, making it clear that he prefers Clinton over Trump. Argentina’s ambassador to the US, Martín Lousteau, had also previously implied Buenos Aires would prefer Hillary Clinton, but framed the issue as one more of convenience than anything else, saying continuity would make relations easier. The other panelist will be Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi and the moderators will be none other than Chelsea Clinton and Bill Clinton. When Aimé García walked into Naná for an after office happy hour last week, heads turned. “I had always wanted to have my own brand and to create a product I could sell internationally. After graduating with a Fashion Design Degree from UBA, she went to work at a large leather-accessories brand. Designing the pretty and functional handbag wasn’t enough for me.” Aimé says. “The design process was really personal and deep but I think it does reflect my brand.

Friday, September 2, 2016 Ousted Rousseff appeals to Supreme CourtA supporter of Brazil’s former president Dilma Rousseff holds a sign depicting Brazil’s new President Michel Temer, during a protest after the Senate removed her from office, in Rio de Janeiro, on Wednesday. BRASILIA — Brazil’s ousted president Dilma Rousseff appealed to the Supreme Court yesterday to overturn the Senate’s decision to remove her from office for breaking budgetary rules. In the unlikely event the Supreme Court approved an injunction, Temer would return to being interim president while the Senate trial was repeated. So far, all requests made by Rousseff’s defence on the merits of the impeachment process against her have been rejected by the Supreme Court, whose Chief Justice Ricardo Lewandowski presided over her impeachment trial. Fears of a rift in his coalition were fuelled on Wednesday, when senators of his own party angered allies by granting Rousseff the right to hold public office in the future in an apparent contradiction to the Constitution.

Is there anything worse than real estate agents? And then — bam!— the real estate agent forces you to fork over two-months’ commission for the privilege of paying rent for 24 months, which is the usual length of a rental contract. A court in the City of Buenos Aires nullified a resolution from the College of Real Estate Brokers of the City of Buenos Aires (Cuciba), the government agency that regulates real estate in the capital, that allowed agencies to charge up to two months’ commission on rental contracts. According to a survey carried out by Reporte Inmobiliario, a sector consultancy, rental contracts for one bedroom apartments increased by 32 percent compared to last year, while prices for two bedrooms soared 37.5 percent. The judge ordered the measure because even though Cuciba is theoretically an entity tasked with controlling real estate companies, its board is comprised by, you guessed it, members of the city’s largest agencies.

As hundreds of thousands of protesters flooded the streets of Caracas, Venezuela to demonstrate in favor of a recall referendum to oust President Nicolás Maduro were echoed today, on a much smaller scale, outside the Venezuelan Embassy in Buenos Aires. Those supporting the referendum were blocked from reaching the embassy gates by Maduro supporters. “[Kirchnerite social leader] Luis D’Elia’s people took over the entrance of the Embassy and wouldn’t let us through. They threw cones and flags at us, they even tried to beat us up,” one Venezuelan told La Nación.
