The African Petroleum Producers’ Organization (APPO) is planning to get its first bank by June 2024 in a move to secure funding for the development of regional energy infrastructure. The bank named as African Energy Bank (AEB) would be launched no later than June 30, 2024. APPO will set up the bank in partnership with Afreximbank. Today, we are doing everything we can to ensure that the African Energy Bank becomes a reality by June 30, 2024,” Benin Minister of Energy, Water and Mines Samou Seidou Adambi said. The organization gave itself until March 31, 2024, to choose a host country for the bank.

Construction is scheduled to commence next year on a R1 billion solar energy project aimed at providing electricity to the Tharisa mine in South Africa’s North West province. The Rustenburg-based project is designed to generate up to 40MW of photovoltaic power to supply electricity to Tharisa Minerals’ platinum group metals and chrome mine. The Buffelspoort Solar Energy project responds to the current energy challenges and load shedding in South Africa, as Tharisa aims to enhance the stability of its electricity supply by diversifying away from reliance on the state utility. Some 600 Egyptian nationals residing illegally in Libya queued, Monday (Nov. 06), outside the Tripoli based- Directorate of Combatting Illegal Migration (DCIM) to receive a pass that would enable them to leave Libya. Until recently, United Nations agencies were responsible for repatriating refugees and migrants in Libya. West and North Africa have adopted recommendations to solve value chain challenges in energy transition and food systems to spur intra-regional development. The recommendations were adopted at the end of a three-day United Nations (UN) Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) intergovernmental committee of senior officers and experts conference, hosted by Ghana. in the two regions to implement in response to the structural causes of perennial energy and food crisis. Mrs Ngone Diop, Director of ECA West Africa said: "The mutual learning will help strengthen and make progress with intra-regional solutions for energy transition and food security for sustainable development." Ms Zuzana Schwidrowski, Director of ECA North Africa, said: "We are high on the policy agenda to address the energy transition and food security issues in a more sustainable way, with a focus on the supply side."
