African hubs network AfriLabs has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Korea-Africa Foundation for a strategic partnership aimed at driving innovation and economic growth across the continent. Having recently announced the admission of 16 new hubs, AfriLabs now has a network of 478 hubs across 260 cities in 53 African nations. The Korea-Africa Foundation, meanwhile, aims to serve as a platform for collaboration between the private and public sectors, and to strengthen exchange and cooperation with African countries. The collaboration between the two aims to bridge the gap between Korean and African startups by leveraging each other’s expertise and resources. This partnership with the Korea-Africa Foundation unlocks a treasure trove of opportunities for startups, granting them access to a global network, invaluable resources, and unparalleled industry knowledge.

The Middle East and North Africa Youth Conference, entitled Youth and the Building of a Free Future, was held in Beirut, Lebanon, on June 8 and 9. The conference resulted in a package of outcomes, including the formation of a Middle East and North Africa Youth Coordination. On the coordination's role, coordination Zana Mustafa explained that the coordinator is an organizational mechanism and an executive body for the follow-up and representation of the conference's decisions, overseeing the realization of the objectives of this initiative. The youth movements and organizations that participated in the conference are: (the Iraqi Democratic Youth Union, the youth of the Beth Nahrin National Union, the Yemeni Socialist Party Student Sector, the Progressive Youth Union in Egypt, the youth of the Sudanese Communist Party, the youth of the Resistance Movement, the youth of the Struggle Movement in Tunisia, and the Council of Youth of the Democratic Peoples’ Congress in Turkey, the Syrian Democratic Youth Council, the Young Women’s Union, the Syriac Progressive Youth Union, the youth of the Armenian Social Council, the Kurdistan Youth Union, the Kurdistan Youth Union Organization, the Students’ Renaissance and Kurdistan Youth Organization, the Kurdistan Youth Freedom Organization, in addition to representatives of The Yazidi Youth Union, activists from Egypt, and representatives of the youth of the revolutionary left movement in Syria, along with a group of activists and writers from Armenia, Egypt, Yemen, and Western Sahara). Zana Mustafa explained that the coordination's tasks also included implementing the resolutions adopted at the conference, submitting studies, developing plans, and developing youth strategies for all youth movements, particularly the common points of youth organizations in the Middle East and North Africa, and intensifying efforts and uniting capacities to achieve the goals and principles of this initiative.

Resilient Andries Gous led a sensational fightback for USA but South Africa's experienced professionals pulled off an 18-run victory in their Group 2 Super Eight match of the T20 World Cup, in Antigua on Wednesday. Reduced to 76/5 in the 12th over with another 119 runs to win, USA appeared down and out. But Gous, who has played U-19s for South Africa, and colts World Cup winner Harmeet went on a carnage of sorts to take their side as close as possible. USA’s resistance also ate into a significant chunk of South Africa’s margin of win which would have been far bigger had the two not added 91 for the sixth wicket. De Kock’s fireworks at the top and skipper Aiden Markram’s fluent 46 also helped South Africa banish their top-order woes after the frontline batters had flopped collectively in the group stage.

Public Management(Ecofin Agency) - Southern Africa remains the main driver of intra-African trade, accounting for 41.4% of all trade between the continent's countries over the past year. Intra-African trade increased by 7.2% in 2023, reaching $192 billion, according to a report released by the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) on Wednesday, June 12, 2024. The report, titled "African Trade Report 2024: Climate Implications of the AfCFTA Implementation," highlighted that intra-regional trade accounted for 15% of Africa's total trade last year, up from 13.6% in 2022. Oil, which makes up over 36% of Africa's total exports, saw price volatility negatively affecting the continent's trade performance. For instance, Nigeria experienced a 19.08% drop in its total trade with the rest of the world in 2023.
